Destiny 2’s Allegiance mission is something new for the series: a decision that must be made between two factions as part of the story.
The decision to support the Drifter or the Vanguard not only changes how you interact with certain characters, but it also changes the type of missions you will play, and could have broader story implications in the future.
Not worth it, this has nothing to do with the Thorn quest, which was released at the same time during Forsaken’s Season of the Wanderer, so feel free to do that quest separately when you’re ready.

How to start the Destiny 2 Allegiance mission
If you’ve just started Season of the Drifter, you won’t have access to the Loyalty quest right away. Visit The Drifter and complete the various steps that introduce Gambit Prime and Reckoning modes.
This includes completing a Gambit Prime bounty and then researching the weak synth you receive to create a weak mote using one of the synths rewarded in Gambit Prime matches to spend in Reckoning mode. Once you’ve spent it and completed a round, win or lose, you can begin the Loyalty quest.
Now visit The Drifter again to choose between Drifter or Vanguard. As for what you should choose, it’s entirely up to you based on your experiences with The Drifter so far.
If you want to get hands-on about it, check out the steps for each option below and see which one you feel like completing. There’s a lot of overlap between the two so you won’t miss much, so maybe go with a gut feeling!
Destiny 2 Loyalty Stand with Vanguard Decision Mission Steps
If you decide to join the Vanguard, these are the steps to complete the Loyalty quest:
- Visit a terminal in the Tower Hangar (on the right as you enter) and then send a message via a messenger (below Dead Orbit in the Hangar).
- Plant insects in the Wanderer’s Tower area (messages will appear)
- Monitor the transmission by visiting the terminal in the Hangar
- Visit the Spider in Tangled Shore and spend 50,000 Glimmer
- Complete the Titan quest Searching for a Clue (a repeat of Siren Song, power level 650)
- Deposit 50 motes into Gambit Prime
- Defeat 25 Guardians in the Crucible.
- Visit the Tower Hangar terminal again
- Complete the “Mystery and Potential” mission from the Gambit mission selector, turning right and following the corridor to a ribbon.
- Find seven tapes in the EDZ (this Ninja Pups video can help 🙂

If you decide to support the Wanderer, these are the steps to complete the Loyalty quest:
- Visit the Spider in Tangled Shore and spend 50,000 Glimmer
- Complete the Titan Dead Drop mission (a repeat of Thief of Thieves, power level 650)
- Defeat 25 Guardians in the Crucible.
- Deposit 50 motes into Gambit Prime
- Gather fuel by defeating 2 Vex raid bosses, collect meat by defeating 2 Cabal raid bosses
- Complete the “Mystery and Potential” mission from the Gambit mission selector, turning right and following the corridor to a ribbon.
- Find seven tapes in the EDZ (this Ninja Pups video can help 🙂

Destiny 2 Allegiance Vanguard and Drifter Rewards
Once you’ve found all seven EDZ Ribbons, you’ll need to return to Ikora or the Drifter respectively to receive your reward, either a Crew or Praxic Loyalty Pack.
Inside is a piece of Vanguard or Drifter equipment at the Powerful Equipment level, as well as a small amount of consumables. It’s pretty disappointing and doesn’t offer anything unique beyond a few wins.
However, let’s assume that learning more about The Drifter is the real reward, as well as the possibility that completing this Loyalty quest may influence some character interactions in the future. It will be interesting to see what happens!
