How to unlock pacts in Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies

Covenants are a new addition to Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies and serve as stations for interesting bonuses and abilities to use in matches. In essence, these are integrated with the experience as a whole.

For example, aside from quirky abilities like the ability to turn enemies to your side, ammo mods are no longer present. Instead, the pacts take the reins in that sense.

The gist of Zombies is this: you undertake a series of objectives by teleporting to different areas, but once you’re done, you’ll be transported back to a central area in Stalingrad. This is where, in addition to upgrading our weapons or checking other stations, you can access the Altar of Covenants.

It is very easy to use them: the Altar of Covenants is always the same, marked on the map of the central area. Once you have collected some Sacrificial Hearts, which are obtained by completing the aforementioned objectives, you will be able to purchase covenants.

There is no way to select specific covenants; instead, they are all unlocked from the beginning, but the selection is always random. You can buy and equip up to three at a time, and the more time you spend in games, the more you’ll start to see the same covenants at higher rarity.

How to unlock epic and legendary pacts in Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies

As we’ve seen before in previous releases, Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies is worth sticking around for a while. Not only will you have the opportunity to save more money and look for better upgrades or more powerful weapons, but the pacts will also improve.

In our experience, covenants always started in the Rare category. This is your standard and in most cases it only adds the perk/ability you can use. To get better versions of Covenants, you’ll have to spend some time completing objectives.

The Altar’s eyes change color to reflect the rarity of the pacts.

In most cases, it didn’t take long for epic pacts to appear, which are the second category. Once again, the selection is random, so it may take you a while to find an upgraded version of a covenant you’ve equipped. But at least epic pacts aren’t very elusive.

Legendary covenants, on the other hand, can be more complicated. During one game, we reached wave 10 without seeing a single legendary covenant. It takes some time, but it’s definitely worth the wait.

If you’re in a hurry or just want to know what to expect from the Altar of Covenants at a glance, pay attention to the color of the altar’s eyes: blue is rare, purple is epic, and orange is legendary.

Call of Duty: Vanguard Covenants List

There are a total of 16 covenants in Call of Duty: Vanguard. Initially there were only 11, but Vanguard Season 1 brought 5 new Covenants. Plus, each one has multiple rarities (which can range from rare to epic to legendary), so longer games will definitely be worth your time.

The random nature of covenants means there is no guarantee of seeing specific covenants over others. It may take one round, two or three, or simply not appear for a long time. The selection can also be quite repetitive, which doesn’t help, so patience is definitely recommended.
