There’s no shiny Cacnea in Pokémon Go, but there are still several reasons why you should participate in this week’s Spotlight.
On this page we cover why you should spend some time catching Cacnea during the one hour period, including the chance of finding a 100% perfect Cacnea IV, and we include a preview of the Shiny Cacnea for when they finally arrive in Pokémon Go .

Cacnea’s 100% perfect IV explained in Pokémon Go
A good reason to participate in this week’s Spotlight is the chance to catch a Perfect Cacnea in Pokémon Go. With his highest possible IV stats, you can turn Cacnea into Cacturne and use him in raids, gyms, and even Go Battle League if you so desire.
The CP values, which correspond to perfect statistics from 15/15/15, are as follows:
- Level 30 (Max Wild CP) – 1,064
- Level 35 (Maximum CP Boosted by Weather) – 1,153
Remember: the wild CP value aligns with your trainer level until you reach level 30. If you are currently below 30, then the maximum CP value will be different. Since the majority of the player base is now above level 30, we kept the previous values to keep things simple.
Cacnea debuted in Pokémon Go in January 2018 along with other Pokémon found in the Hoenn Desert.
Is there a shiny Cacnea in Pokémon Go?
There is no shiny Cacnea in Pokémon Go.
Since there is no shiny Cacnea in Pokémon Go, and since it is unlikely to be a Community Day candidate, we can expect it to be released as part of a future in-game event. Almost every Gen 2 Pokémon has released its shiny form, so we may see shiny Cacnea arrive sometime in 2022 while Niantic works on the Gen 3 shiny forms.
However, thanks to the main Pokémon games, we know what a shiny Cacnea will be like.
What does shiny Cacnea look like?
Looking back at previous mainline games, you can see what shiny Cacnea looks like in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire from the 1:16 mark in the following video from aDrive on YouTube:

As you can see, Cacnea turns from cactus green to dusty brown, reflecting how it prefers the desert regions of the Pokémon universe.
This design has remained consistent since Cacnea’s release in the original Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, which you can see in the YouTube video, created by Waddy, below from the 2:08 mark:

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.
Other reasons to catch as many Cacnea as possible
Although there aren’t any shiny Cacneas to look for in this Featured Hour, there are still several reasons to catch as many Cacneas as you can:
- If you haven’t had the chance to add Cacnea or its evolution, Cacturne, to your Pokédex yet, then this Spotlight is the perfect time to do so.
- Every Pokémon you catch during this Spotlight Hour will also benefit from double-catch candy!
- You’ll also receive double stardust as this Featured Hour takes place in conjunction with the Day of the Dead event. This makes it the perfect time to use a Star Piece and collect a load of Stardust thanks to increased Pokémon spawns.
- Cacnea is a grass-type Pokémon, so you can take advantage of this hour to make good progress on your grass-type (gardener) medal.
Spotlight Hour only lasts one hour, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm (local time), but don’t worry if you can’t participate this week. Next week Chinchou will be the center of attention with a double transfer candy bonus!
