The first piece in Apex Legends is a quest introduced on May 19, 2020 as part of Season 5.
This mission is the first of nine hunts that will be available throughout the season, which can be played alone or with friends, with the goal of recovering an Artifact piece as part of the story of the new Apex Legends character, Loba.

How to start the first piece in Apex Legends
Each hunt requires you to collect a certain number of treasure packs before you can access them.
For The First Piece, which is the first hunt introduced in Season 5, you must have collected 5 treasure packs.
With a 24-hour cooldown for each individual treasure pack, this means the quickest you can start this quest is five days in the real world.
Once you have 5 treasure packs, head to the “Quest” part of the lobby, then select the quest in the bottom left “Story Progress” section.
How to complete The First Piece in Apex Legends
The First Piece mission is pretty simple: follow the on-screen markers through the tunnel, past the warehouses on your right to reach a hangar with the artifact. Start mining it, defend it until you can collect it, then run back to the first building and head to the delivery ship on the roof.
Of course, there are marauders you must kill along the way. These start appearing halfway through the tunnel and will come at you en masse as you exit, find the artifact, defend it, and then flee to the dropship.
Here are some tips on how to complete The First Piece:
- Although you have to complete The First Piece in eight minutes, that’s enough time to clear each wave to the escape and search several hiding places along the way.
- The most useful loot caches are the two on an upper walkway in the tunnel (which give you some Mozambique weapon upgrades) and the one in the first warehouse when you exit the tunnel (which features a Phoenix kit) along with some armor blue on the ground. .
- There’s also some loot next to the buildings behind where you start, although we’d say it’s not worth the effort with the limited time you have.
- The Phoenix Kit is best used after clearing all the waves once the Artifact has finished mining, as you’ll want as much health and shields for the final journey to the ship, which is possibly the hardest part of the mission.
- To get to the ship, it is on the roof of the first warehouse you passed earlier. Run over there and when you climb the first flight of stairs on the other side, take a moment to turn around and clear the marauders behind you, before tackling the next floor. When you are on the roof, you will be able to reach the ship; There will be no enemies up here.
- Although the upgraded Mozambique is great for catching marauders in a couple of shots as they approach, the reload time is slow, so be sure to switch to the P2020 until the coast is clear.
- The ‘molten’ marauders go down with a single clean shot from the P2020, so switch to that when they start appearing while defending the artifact. This weapon also works effectively at range, so prioritize it for this stage of the mission.
- Marauders can take you down with just a few hits and their speed means healing is difficult. Prioritize shields, as they are faster than syringes, and be prepared to draw your weapon if a marauder or two suddenly appear.
- If you’re playing alone, remember that you have two respawns if you feel overwhelmed, although you’ll waste a bit of time having to go back to where you left off.
- For story reasons, you cannot play as either Loba or Revenant.
