There are 80 Gratitude Crystals to collect in Skyward Sword: 65 of which are obtained by completing side quests and the other 15 are scattered throughout the sky islands.

.

To unlock the Gratitude Crystals side quests and the crystals hidden in Skyloft, you must first complete the Find Kukiel side quest, which becomes available once you have completed the Skyview Temple and placed the Ruby Tablet inside the Goddess statue.

During this side quest, you will meet Batreaux and he will ask you to collect gratitude crystals so he can transform into a human. In exchange for your efforts, he will give you a series of rewards.

You must collect all 80 Gratitude Crystals to fulfill Batreaux’s wish, and once you have achieved this goal, the monsters will stop lurking around Skyloft at night and the Remlits will no longer attack you.

Gratitude Crystal Locations in Zelda: Skyward Sword Explained

You can find 15 Gratitude Crystals scattered around Skyloft and the surrounding island in Skyward Sword. These gratitude crystals only appear at night and can be found both inside and outside buildings.

The first 12 Gratitude Crystals can be found in Skyloft and three can be found inside the Knight Academy, starting with Link’s dorm room.

The second can be found next to the door on the second floor of the Knight Academy.

The last Crystal of Gratitude is hidden in Zelda’s bedroom at the Knight Academy.

If you already visited his room to collect the Heart Piece, you can enter simply by using the bed. If you haven’t, you’ll have to wait until you get the Clawshots by completing the Silent Realm challenge in the Lanayru Desert.

Once you have this item, head to the roof of the Knight Academy and use the Clawshots on the grapple spot inside the chimney. Now all you have to do is follow the access spaces until you reach Zelda’s room.

To obtain the fourth Crystal of Gratitude, you must visit the Sparring Hall next to the Knight Academy. Once there, deploy the Hook Beetle and recover the crystal from the building’s beams.

Another Crystal of Gratitude can be found by going down the main stairs leading to the Knight Academy in Skyloft and then immediately crossing the wooden walkway.

After crossing this walkway, you can find the Gratitude Crystal in a corner next to the cliff.

To find the sixth Gratitude Crystal in Skyloft, you need to head to the windmill closest to the bazaar. To the right of this windmill, you will find a section of vines that will allow you to climb down to the ledge below.

It is on this ledge where you will find the Gratitude Crystal.

After collecting this Gratitude Crystal, head to the house right in front of the nearby windmill to find the next crystal.

You will find a gratitude crystal inside this house.

To get the eighth Gratitude Crystal in Skyloft, head to the Light Tower in Skyloft Plaza and climb the first staircase. Now all you have to do is walk around this level of the tower until you find the Gratitude Crystal.

Next, head to the pumpkin patch on the residential side of Skyloft, where you’ll find a Gratitude Crystal next to a tree.

To find the 10th Gratitude Crystal in Skyloft, you must, again, make sure you have the Clawshots. Once you do, head to the entrance to Waterfall Cave, where you can find a series of vines that you can shoot with claws.

These will take you to the top of the waterfall where, next to a Goddess Chest containing a Piece of Heart, you will find the Gratitude Crystal within the water. You retrieve it by swimming in the water or using the Hook Beetle.

To get the last two Gratitude Crystals in Skyloft, you need to head through the Waterfall Cave to where Groose hid Link’s Crimson Loftwing.

One gratitude crystal is found near the bird statue, while the other can be found in the cave Loftwing was trapped in.

You must travel through Waterfall Cave to reach these Gratitude Crystals.

Two Gratitude Crystals can be found loose in Pumpkin Landing, so travel there during the day and then sleep into the night in one of Lumpy Pumpkin’s beds.

One Gratitude Crystal is located in Lumpy Pumpkin’s balcony area and the second can be found in the storage shed outside.

To get the last loose Gratitude Crystal, you must first sleep until night in Beedle’s tent. Leaving the store, you will find yourself on Beedle Island. Now all you have to do is use the Hook Beetle to collect the Gratitude Crystal from the top of the store.

With all the loose Gratitude Crystals collected, you can now earn the remaining 65 by completing side quests.
