ChatGPT heat is becoming popular with each passing day and it has also reached Google. That is why the search engine giant has decided to launch its version of the AI chatbot known as Google Bard.

What exactly is Google Bard?
In his own words, “Google Bard is a large language model chatbot developed by Google AI. It is trained on a massive data set of text and code and can generate text, translate languages, write different types of creative content, and answer your questions in an informative way. Bard is still developing, but he has learned to perform many types of tasks.”
Bard is an AI chatbot created by Google to compete with other AI players. The platform was announced in February 2023 and users had to join a waiting list to test the capabilities of Google’s new initiative.
However, recently a news article from the Google company announced “As we continue to make additional improvements and introduce new features, we want to bring Bard to more people so they can try it out and share their feedback with us.
“That’s why today we eliminated the waitlist and opened Bard to more than 180 countries and territories, with more to come soon.”
Bard is separate from Google Search. Bard can code, solve math problems, and help with writing needs, just like most AI chatbots.
Google CEO mentions “Bard seeks to combine the breadth of world knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our great language models. It draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality answers.
“Bard can be an outlet for creativity and a launching pad for curiosity, helping you explain new discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn more about the best strikers in today’s soccer, and then learn exercises to develop your skills.”
The platform opens with a welcome screen that displays many prompts at the top, one by one, showing its capabilities.
Below the prompts, the welcome screen mentions “Meet Bard: your creative and helpful collaborator, here to power your imagination, increase your productivity, and bring your ideas to life.”
Additionally, it informs users about Bard’s capabilities. “Bard is an experiment and may give inaccurate or inappropriate answers. You can help improve Bard by leaving comments.”

And below there is a checkbox that indicates “Subscribe to receive email updates about Bard. Your personal data will be processed by Google LLC to send those emails in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy.
Unlike ChatGPT, the platform does not display message history in the left panel. However, there is an option known as “Bard Activity” which redirects to the instructions presented.
Bard allows you to control how your activity data is stored. You can choose to have your activity data automatically deleted after a set period, or you can manually delete it at any time.
What does Bard run on?
The platform was based on Google’s large language model (LLM), which is LaMDA.
Bard previously ran Google’s LaMDA language model, which was trained on a massive data set of text and code.
However, it has now moved to a newer, more powerful language model. PaLM 2 can generate text, translate languages, write different types of creative content, and answer questions in an informative way.
Sundar Pichai mentioned in the last Google I/O “That’s the opportunity we have with Bard, our conversational AI experiment, which we launched in March.
“We have been rapidly evolving Bard. He now supports a wide range of programming abilities and has become much smarter in mathematical reasoning and directions. And as of today, it runs entirely on PaLM 2.”
How to access Google Bard?

Google Bard differentiates itself from its competitors by providing multiple draft responses to messages, as well as a “Google it” option to help users find additional sources of information.
Google Bard vs ChatGPT: Which is better?
Initially, ChatGPT does not have the ability to collect information from the Internet, while Bard is powered by Internet access which gives it an advantage over its rival. Bard is trained on a massive data set of text and code that can pull real-time information from the Internet.
Here’s an example: Both platforms were presented with the message “What’s the latest stock news?” and these were the answers:

Apart from this, Google Bard lags behind in providing fonts. A test message was displayed indicating “Give me sources on Indian history with links” and here are the answers:

While ChatGPT does not have real-time internet access, it still offers some sources through which Indian history can be accessed.
Another factor that makes Bard better than ChatGPT is that it can be accessed via voice prompts. This is a convenient way to get responses while multitasking, and is probably the first time voice has been used as a message in an AI chatbot.
Google has focused on improving the Bard user experience by offering an option to export the response in Google Docs or as a draft in Gmail. This is a convenient feature that allows users to save their responses for later or share them with others. ChatGPT does not offer this feature, making Bard a more user-friendly option.
The current debate between ChatGPT and Bard revolves around their unique strengths and areas for improvement. Both AIs are continually evolving, driven by the quest to improve their capabilities and understanding of human language.
