Valheim’s Obliterator is one of the new items introduced in the September 2021 Hearth and Home update.
In addition to introducing several changes, such as rebalanced combat and food systems, there are additions such as home cooking stations, new weapons, furniture, and items, such as the Thunder Stone.
Obliterator addresses a long-requested feature: the ability to delete items, and it’s likely one of the first things you’ll want to create after installing the update.

Valheim Obliterator
From the beginning, Valheim players had item hoarding issues due to the game’s inability to destroy certain items, resulting in rooms filled with chests filled with trash and unwanted drops that would otherwise be left on the ground.

With the latest content brought about by a new tool called Obliterator, those times are long forgotten.
The Obliterator acts as a magical garbage disposal machine, you can put anything inside it, pull the lever and Thor’s thunder will disintegrate it, leaving only carbon as the rest of what were once your items.
Since coal is necessary for the operation of forges and foundries, it is really useful for both removing trash and growing fuel.
To use the Obliterator, you must load it with all the items you want to discard and then pull the lever on one side of the machine. Take a few steps back so as not to be pushed back by the incoming thunder and you should be rewarded with a useful pile of coal waiting inside.
How to craft the Obliterator in Valheim
First, make sure you have the Hearth and Home update, since which the Obliterator was introduced to the game.
Creating the Obliterator requires that you have progressed deeper into Valheim, as you should at least be able to enter the burial crypts in the swamp biome. The complete recipe for this machine is as follows:
- a forge
- Iron x8
- Copper x4
- Thunder Stone x1
For experienced players, most of these elements should be recognizable. We have a dedicated iron page to help there, but in short, you need to have access to the Swamp biome and mine it from the muddy scrap piles, and as for copper, it is obtained by placing copper ores (found in the the Black Forest). ) in the Foundry.
However, something new is the Thunder Stone. So how do you get one of those?
How to get a Thunder Stone in Valheim
A Thunder Stone can be purchased from Haldor, a merchant NPC that can be found randomly in the Black Forest biome, for 50 coins.
If you need to obtain coins, you can find them in many chests around the world or inside burial chambers.
Once you have the necessary materials, head to any Forge to create your Obliterator and that’s it! Now you can get rid of your unwanted items.
