The Outer Worlds Edgewater or Botanical choice – Comes Now the Power mission explained

Comes Now the Power is the second main mission of The Outer Worlds and has four different conclusions that you can choose from.

You need a power regulator to make The Unreliable fly again, but you can only get one by diverting power from the town of Edgewater or the camp at the Botanical Laboratory.

No matter which option you choose, someone is going to get hurt.

Choice of Edgewater or Botanical in Comes Now the Power explained

Once you have activated all the necessary switches in the geothermal power plant, you can use the main terminal in the main control room to divert power to Edgewater or the Botanical Camp.

You must choose Edgewater or the Botanical Laboratory.

This is your first faction choice in The Outer Worlds.

Siding with Edgewater is siding with the Spacer’s Choice corporation, while siding with the Botanical Camp will help the deserters fighting the companies that control Halcyon.

Your reputation with both factions will decrease or increase depending on your decision, which will affect any faction bonuses you may receive, such as supplier discounts.

Your reputation can be both positive and negative.

It is also possible for locals in certain areas to become more hostile if you have a negative reputation with their faction.

Consider which path you want to take in The Outer Worlds before making this decision, as this choice, along with many others, will affect the overall ending you receive.

What happens when you divert energy to Botanical Camp?

If you decide to redirect the power to the Botanical Camp, you will receive 2828 XP.

Your reputation with Deserters will increase, while your reputation with Spacer’s Choice will decrease, becoming negative.

Returning to Edgewater to retrieve the Power Regulator, you’ll find Reed in the main cannery area.

Head to the cannery.

When you talk to him, he will inform you that the guards have orders to shoot you. You will then have the option to apologize or, if your Intimidate skill is above 30, threaten him.

Either way, you’ll receive the Power Regulator and 15,000 XP for completing the mission.

What happens when you divert power to Edgwater?

If you decide to redirect the power to Edgewater, you will receive 2828 XP.

Your reputation with Spacer’s Choice will increase, while your reputation with Deserters will increase.

If you plan to unlock the trophy to “Permanently Save Edgewater”, you must redirect the power to Edgewater.

Diverting power to Edgewater gives you the option of two different endings, depending on whether you leave Reed in control of Edgewater.

First, however, you must return to Adelaide at the Botanical Camp and talk to her.

The Outer Worlds begins on Terra-2, where you can complete the mission The Frightened Engineer and decide whether to divert power to Edgewater or the Botanical Laboratory. Once you’ve fixed The Unreliable, you can complete Weapons From the Void to unlock the scientific weapons.

You can join The Unreliable with a group of companions and also manage your reputation with various factions. Finally, if you’re ready for spoilers, we have a guide to the different endings.

What else do you need to do after choosing Edgewater in The Outer Worlds?

Upon returning to Adelaide at the Botanical Camp, she will, of course, be angry that you decided not to protect her new home.

She will lead you to make decisions: convince her fellow deserters to return to Edgewater under Reed’s control or eliminate Reed entirely, allowing her to become the sole leader of the community.

Just like when you diverted power, this decision will affect your reputation with Spacer’s Choice and the Deserters.

Convince the deserters to return to Edgewater

Thomas Kemp and Grace Romero are the two deserters who you must convince to return to Edgewater.

If you want them to return to Edgewater, you must first complete their side quests.

For Thomas you must complete The Frightened Engineer and, for Grace, Some Kindred Spirits.

You can often find Grace and Thomas at the Botanical Camp campfire.

Once you’ve completed both side quests, you’ll be able to convince Thomas and Grace to return to Edgewater.

Now you can return to town yourself and tell Reed the good news. You will be rewarded with 13200 XP and a reputation boost with Spacer’s Choice.

Remove Rod from Edgewater

There are two ways to get Reed to leave Edgewater.

The first is murder.

This is a risky option, because the two guards in Reed’s office will start attacking you. Parvati will also try to leave your party if you kill Reed and don’t have 10 Resolve to convince her to stay with her.

After you have killed Reed, your reputation with Spacer’s Choice will drop to the highest negative level and you will obtain Reed’s key, which will allow you to enter his private room.

The second option is to convince him to leave, which you can only do if you have 15 Persuade and 25 Lie.

Simply return to Reed’s office and review the dialogue options until you have a chance to persuade him to leave.

If you know the content of Adelaide fertilizer, the amount of Lie will be slightly reduced.

Once Reed has left Edgewater, return to Adelaide and she will give you the Adelaide Clock, which you can sell for 1750 Bits.

Your reputation with the Deserters will increase, while your reputation with The Board will decrease slightly.
