What are Temtem types and how do they work?
Temtem has a total of 12 types. A Temtem can be of one or two types, while each move also has a type.
Generally, Temtem types work as you’d expect the items they’re based on to, especially if you’ve played Pokémon; For example, water is effective against fire, fire is effective against grass, and grass is effective against water.
That being said, there are some differences; Temtem starters don’t fit into this tradition; there are fewer types than Pokémon; And while there are some obvious comparisons (Mental is Psychic, for example), there are also some new elements like Digital and Crystal to learn.
If you are not at all familiar with how types work, they operate on weaknesses and strengths. A type can be strong against another type (double damage or x2) or weak against another type (medium damage or x0.5), and if it is not one of these, then the normal one (x1 damage) applies.
Additionally, since a Temtem can be of multiple types, these strengths can stack, allowing for x4 damage if it is a double weakness. Likewise, they can cancel each other out if a move is both weak and strong against both types of Temtem.
All of this is useful not only for knowing when to position one Temtem against another in the heat of battle, but also when capturing and building your squad. If you know in advance that you’ll be facing a certain set of guys, then you’ll want to minimize your weaknesses and increase your strengths.
And if you don’t know what’s coming, then it’s highly recommended to have a full team with as many options against each type.
