Starfield: In Their Footsteps walkthrough

The main quest In Their Footsteps in Starfield begins after completing the previous Unity quest.

From the beginning, you have renewed dialogue with the Starborns after Keeper Aquilus prepared you to explore the true meaning of the Totality. You cannot start a fight in the dialogue, even afterward. The only option is to dock on the Scorpius and try to have a friendly conversation.

Talk to the hunter

Threats will get us nowhere. Instead, hop aboard the Scorpius and see what the Starborns have to say. | Image credit: Bethesda Softworks.

Inside we meet the Hunter and the Emissary. Put away your weapons, you can’t use them here anyway. In the dialogue we learn more about his side of the story and a few more details about Unity.

You’ll also be surprised when the companion who died in the High Price to Pay quest is in front of you, very much alive. Or, at least, it’s another version of them.

What follows is a series of metaphysical discourses about the whole, the universe, artifacts, and Starborns. At the end, you can exchange some optional additional words with the two of you.

Optional: Talk to the hunter and the emissary.

You don’t have to do this, you can leave immediately if you want, but it doesn’t hurt. The emissary has information about the artifacts and the armillary (multiverse model).

The Hunter also has some interesting things to say, so take a few minutes to question him until the variety of topics runs out.

Get out of Scorpio

When you’ve discussed everything, head in the direction of the exit. The Emissary stops you again and sends you to Earth’s moon in the solar system.

We get the key to the moon base, which should be useful. Otherwise, the mission is complete. Two new main quests begin: Final Glimpses and Unearthed.
