PUBG Sanhok Map Explained: Size, New Features, and Map Differences

Here’s a quick rundown of everything new or different about the 4×4 Sanhok map.

PUBG Sanhok map.

The most obvious point to make is that this new map is, of course, smaller than the other maps, such as the 8×8 Erangel and Miramar and the newer 6×6 Vikendi. This measures four by four kilometers and the player counts up to 100 per round.

Sanhok also launched alongside a new Event Pass reward system at the start – check out the latest ‘season’ details and more granular tweaks in our guide to the latest PUBG update patch notes.

Generally speaking, though, the main difference in actual gameplay between Sanhok and others is pacing. Being half the size of Erangel and Miramar, Sanhok offers frantic early-game shootouts, a fairly calm mid-game, and faster circles to pick up the pace in the late game.

Sanhok vehicles and other exclusive equipment.

Like Miramar when it was still new, Sanhok brought with it some firsts.

These are mainly vehicles and weapons, although there are a few other things to keep in mind as well. Here are the key unique things that are especially linked to Sanhok.

Unique Sanhok Vehicles:

  • Tukshai – 3 seats
  • Scooter – 2 seats
  • Rony – 4-seater van

Unique Sanhok Weapons:

  • QBU – DMR, replaces the Mini 14
  • QBZ-95 – Assault rifle, replaces the SCAR-L

Other things exclusive to Sanhok:

  • Sanhok has four types of weather available: clear, dawn, rain and fog.

Sanhok Starting Locations, Strategies and Where to Land

A quick reminder that our PUBG loot locations on all maps guide delves into specific locations for looting and the quality, quantity, and risk of those areas in much more detail, but for now here’s a quick summary of some of our favorites. Keep in mind that in Sanhok, loot is pretty plentiful across the board, so these are just a few of our highlights:

You can’t have a PUBG map without a quarry!

Best PUBG Sanhok Start Locations

  • Camp Alpha, Bravo and Charlie: Three mini military bases can be found in similar positions in the east, west and south of the island, and they all play more or less the same way: chaotic if there is a direct overpass, a bit less chaotic if the plane is further away. Note that loot is just as good, if not better, on the roofs of structures as it is inside.
  • Ruins: A really cool little maze of tunnels and rooms filled with high grade loot (Level 3). The surrounding pillars on the outside also have traversable loot if the middle is too contested.
  • Mongnai: A nice little secret is this area in the northeast corner of the map that looks like a coconut farm. We found a level 3 vest and an M24 here in a single visit. Loot is scarce, but of high quality, and can be found throughout the plantation and in a few buildings.

  • Paradise Resort and Bootcamp – Both are large, central, high-density areas and if you’ve played a lot of PUBG you’ll know what that means. Absolute carnage, but plenty of loot. Good for a warm-up game or target practice, not so good for winning a round.
  • Docks: A smaller version of Erangel’s Novoporonye, the docks are filled with climbable shipping containers with a lot of loot, but be careful, it’s slow to get through and leaves you quite exposed, although I’ve been pretty calm when we’ve gotten there so far .
  • Quarry: It wouldn’t be PUBG without a quarry, but this one is actually flooded. Very high quality loot but it is scattered. Ideal for a squad, look for the group’s scalable rectangular blocks for the highest loot density and watch out for vantage points staring at you from all angles as you search.
  • Mountaintop Ruins: A much smaller set of ruins that is essentially one of those open-air pillars and two small warehouse-like buildings. The loot is average but rarely contested and gives you a brilliant vantage point from the top of the map. Just be careful of getting stuck on the cliffs while trying to descend!

  • Pontoons: The various coastal pontoons (what we call those little structures that jut out into the sea on little jetty bridges) actually have some pretty decent loot, especially if you can scavenge through half a dozen of them and the nearby buildings alone. Just be careful to get stuck right at the edge of the map when the blue zone starts moving.
