Pokémon Sword and Shield - How to start the Crown Tundra DLC

The Crown Tundra for Pokémon Sword and Shield has arrived!

This DLC allows you to travel to the southern reaches of the Galar region, where you can capture a host of legendary Pokémon, including new Gen 8 legendaries like Calyrex.

Before your adventure begins, however, it’s a good idea to make sure you can start the Crown Tundra DLC.

If you want to visit the Crown Tundra in Pokémon Sword and Shield, you must first purchase the Expansion Pass.

This pass can be easily purchased from the Nintendo Switch eShop and includes the Isle of Armor DLC and the Crown Tundra DLC.

Once you’ve purchased this pass, you’ll need to make sure you’ve visited the Wild Area in the games’ main story at least once. This occurs approximately two hours into the game after visiting Professor Magnolia and leaving Wedgehurst Station for the first time.

If you’re having trouble getting to the Wild Area or just want to know what to do in advance, read the guides below:

Once you’ve unlocked the ability to visit the Crown Tundra in Pokémon Sword and Sword, you’ll automatically receive a Crown Pass. This pass can be found in the Key Items pocket and allows you to travel to the Crown Tundra.

Now, just like your first visit to the Isle of Armor, you must head to the Wedgehurst train station and go to the station attendant next to the ticket office.

Talking to him will allow you to select the Crown Tundra Station as your destination.

Once you disembark the train, a researcher will update your Pokédex with the Crown Tundra Pokédex.
