Pokémon Scarlet and Violet The First Day of School quest steps

The first day of school is the introductory chapter of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Below you’ll learn how to complete the first day of school in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, so you can really begin your Pokémon journey.

How to complete the first day of school in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet begin in Cabo Poco, a small place on the southern coast of the Paldea region, and the first task you must complete is to go downstairs to talk to your mom.

Once Principal Clavell arrives, go upstairs to pick up your hat and bag before heading back down the stairs. After a cutscene, you’ll be left with Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. You can wonder about your garden with the Pokémon, but, to continue the story, you must visit the mansion to the east of your house.

Upon arrival, you will meet Nemona and finally, you will be able to choose your starting Pokémon.

Your options are:

  • Sprigatito – Grass type
  • Fuecoco – Fire type
  • Quaxly – Water Type

Nemona will then take the starter that is weak for the chosen starter type; So if she chose Sprigatito, for example, she will choose Quaxly. This choice works in your favor and will help you win your first Pokémon battle against Nemona on the beach behind the mansion.

Nemona will have the following team and you will win 500 cash prizes for defeating her:

Pokemon Level Guy Weaknesses
SprigatitoFuecocoQuaxly 5 GrassFireWater Insect, Fire, Flying, Poison and IceEarth, Rock and WaterGrass and Electricity

After defeating her, Nemona will add the Pokédex app to your Rotom phone. Now you can keep track of all the Pokémon you find in Paldea!

Now, return to the front of the mansion where you will meet your mother. She will give you five potions and a sandwich, all of which will come in handy in the near future.

Next, you need to head north along the Poco Path, so you can learn how to catch Nemona’s Pokémon. She will give you five Poké Balls to help you with this task and you will soon find yourself catching a Lechonk – Level 3!

Nemona will then give you 10 additional Poké Balls and ask you to meet her at the lighthouse. This lighthouse is located at the end of the Poco Path, so feel free to explore the area and capture more Pokémon for your team. You will also find some useful articles.

You’ll eventually hear a roar as you venture down the Poco Path, and as you pass through the gap in the fence, you’ll fall to the beach below.

There you will find a mysterious Pokémon lying on the beach: Koraidon in Pokémon Scarlet and Miraidon in Pokémon Violet. Approach the Pokémon lying on the beach and offer it the sandwich your mom gave you. This will give the Pokémon back some of its energy and now you must follow it to Inlet Grotto.

Continue following Koradion/Miraidon through Inlet Grotto, capturing a couple of Pokémon if you wish, until you confront a Houndoom. At this point, Koradion/Miraidon will take you out of the cave where you will meet Nemona. She will also give you TM032 Swift.

Then, head to the lighthouse where you will find Arven. He will challenge you to a Pokémon battle and will have the following equipment:

Pokemon Level Guy Weaknesses
Skwovet 5 Normal Struggle

You will receive 300 cash prizes and the Poké Ball for Koradion/Miraidon for defeating Arven.

Then, go to the top of the lighthouse where Nemona will ask you to meet her at Los Platos. This town is located north of your current location, and along the way you’ll have the chance to catch more Pokémon, such as Paldean Wooper and Fidough. There are also several trainers you can fight with!

Remember, unlike previous Pokémon games, you must talk to trainers to battle them in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Nemona will be waiting for you at the Los Platos Pokémon Center and will give you 5,000 League Points. These can be used to craft TMs at Pokémon Centers and as payment at a variety of stores throughout the region.

Now you need to head to Mesagoza, which is located directly north of Los Platos. You really can’t miss the huge doors. A small field lies between Los Platos and your destination, containing more trainers to battle and Pokémon, including Pichu.

Nemona will meet you at the gates of Mesagoza and is eager for another battle. She will have the following equipment:

Pokemon Level Guy Weaknesses
SprigatitoFuecocoQuaxly 8 GrassFireWater Insect, Fire, Flying, Poison and IceEarth, Rock and WaterGrass and Electricity
daddy 9 ElectricTerra Type: Electric Floor

By defeating her, you will win 530 cash prizes and three Revives.

After entering Mesagoza, you can explore the city or head directly north to the school. In Pokémon Scarlet, you will attend Orange Academy, and in Pokémon Violet, you will attend Grape Academy. Mesagoza is worth taking the time to tour as it contains a hair salon, a variety of restaurants and a selection of shops selling items, sandwich ingredients and clothing.

When you’re ready, continue north up the stairs until you find a student being harassed by two Team Star Grunts. Annoyed by your interference, the grunts will challenge you to a battle.

The first Team Star Grunt will have the following equipment:

Pokemon Level Guy Weaknesses
Shroodle 8 Poison / Normal Psychic and Terrain

You will win 416 cash prizes in this battle.

Nemona will arrive after this battle and give you the Terra Orb. This will allow you to Terastalize a Pokémon; possibly altering its type, but always giving it a fresh crystalline look. Be sure to use Terra Orb wisely, because it can only be used once before it needs to be charged to a Pokémon Center.

You will now be challenged by the second Star Grunt Team, which will have the following equipment:

Pokemon Level Guy Weaknesses
Yungoos 9 Normal Struggle

You will receive 468 cash prizes for defeating this grunt.

With Team Star banished for now, you can continue north and finally reach your new school.

After meeting the rest of the class, you will need to visit the staff room and cafeteria.

In the staff room, you will find Nemona and unlock the Victory Road story. This is the traditional challenge to defeat Gym Leader and Elite Four with the goal of becoming Pokémon Champion.

In the Cafeteria, you will find Arven and unlock the Path of Legends story. With this story, you will help Arven find five Titan Pokémon and the mysterious herbs they hold.

Upon unlocking these stories, you will find yourself in the school lobby, but you will quickly be called to the principal’s office.

Before you head there, however, it’s worth speaking to the woman behind the lobby counter, as she’ll allow you to take several lessons. At the moment, only Battle Studies, Biology, and Mathematics will be available, but more will become available as you defeat the Paldea Gym Leaders. Some lessons may even lead you to unlock more adventures…

However, it’s not good to leave the principal waiting, so be sure to head to the principal’s office!

There, Clavell will introduce you to your game’s professor: Professor Sudo in Pokémon Scarlet and Professor Turo in Pokémon Violet. No matter which professor calls, they will ask you to take care of Koraidon or Miraidon, depending on your version, and help him regain his lost power.

With that, the meeting will end and Nemona will arrive to show you to your bedroom. Now you just have to go to bed and, once the days have stopped flying by, leave for the School Yard.

Now simply head up the stairs and watch the final cutscene of this intro in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. During this scene, Cassiopeia will contact you again and you will unlock the Starfall Street story. For this mission, you must assault the five Team Star bases located in the Paldea region and defeat the bosses that rule them.

Congratulations, you are now free to explore Paldea! The region is your Cloyster: will you travel Victory Road, investigate Path of Legends, or fight on Starfall Street?
