7 Things We Liked (& 4 Things We Didn’t) About Pokémon Scarlet & Violet – SCARLET & VIOLET REVIEW

How to get to Cortondo in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The easiest way to get to Cortondo in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is to leave Mesagoza through its west gate and follow the road until you reach the town.

It can also be reached by heading directly northwest from Cabo Poco (although you will have a lot of ground to cover) or by taking the southwest highway out of Cascarrafa, following it until you reach Western Province (Area One). – Pokémon Center Central and, from there, direction southeast.

If you’re getting lost, set Cortondo as a destination on your map to ensure it appears as a waypoint on your minimap. Once there, you will find the Gym in the middle of the only street in town.

By the way, you’re very close to a Bronzor location, which is particularly useful if you’re playing Scarlet and want to turn Charcadet into Armarouge in the future.

How to complete the Olive Roll challenge in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The first step to defeating Gym Leader Katy in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is to complete Cortondo’s Gym Test, which is the Olive Roll Challenge.

To participate in this test, you must first visit the Cortonder gym and speak to the staff. Leave the gym after doing so and head northwest, following the main road to the left and then up after passing the sandwich shop, until you reach the Olive Roll maze.

For the test itself, you simply push the giant olive through the maze until you reach the large basket at the end. The olive moves when you walk on it, but it bounces around a lot, so it may not always go in the desired direction.

This Gym Trial has no time limit and you can make it easier by unlocking two shortcuts, but first you will have to defeat a Gym Trainer.

The first trainer you will find is Gym Trainer Esmeralda. You will receive 1,820 cash prizes for defeating her and her team is as follows:

Pokemon Level Guy Weaknesses
kricketune 13 Bug Fire, flight and rock

The second is Gym Trainer Antonio; You will win 1,820 prize money for defeating him and his team is as follows:

Pokemon Level Guy Weaknesses
Venonat 13 Insect/Poison Fire, Flying, Rock and Psychic

Once you have completed the Olive Roll, return to the gym, take the time to prepare for the battle ahead, and challenge Gym Leader Katy.

Our The Teal Mask walkthrough will help you complete the first part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, but make sure you know how to start it first. When visiting Kitakami it is a good idea to know how to get Sinistea, Dipplin and The Loyal Three. Our Pokémon Scarlet and Violet walkthrough can take you through the main campaign, including The First Day of School, Victory Road, Starfall Street, Path of Legends, and, when you’re ready, The Way Home and the final boss. Elsewhere, we can help with the normal gym test secret item menu, version differences, the best scarlet and violet starter, XP farming, shiny Pokémon, and learning to fly, swim, climb, and run. When it comes to individual Pokémon, we can help with Gimmighoul, Ditto, Bellibolt, Pawmot, Scovillain, Frigibax, Brambleghast, Annihilape, Farigiraf, Dudunsparce, Lycanrock, Armarouge, and Ceruledge.

How to beat Katy, leader of the Bug Gym in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Katy, Cortondo’s gym leader, loves bug-type Pokémon and her team reflects that.

Bug-type Pokémon are weak to Fire, Flying, and Rock-type Pokémon.

This means that you will easily defeat Katy if you choose Fuecoco as your starting Pokémon. If you didn’t, then it’s worth catching a Fletching: this fire- and flying-type Pokémon can easily be found in the lands north and northeast of Cortondo, in places like Grand Olive Orchard.

Feathered places.

Remember, like all Gym Leaders, she will terastalize her last Pokémon, so even if it isn’t a Bug-type at first, it will become one.

Katy’s Pokémon team is:

Pokemon Level Guy Weaknesses
nimbus 14 Bug Fire, flight and rock
taruntula 14 Bug Fire, flight and rock
Teddiursa fifteen Normal Terra Type: Error FightingTerra Type: Fire, Flying and Rock

For defeating Katy, you will receive 2,700 prize money, TM021 Pounce, and a Gym Badge. Increasing the level cap so that Pokémon listen to you and are easier to catch will depend on where you are in the Victory Road story.

Depending on where you are in the Victory Road story, you may have a battle with Nemona after defeating Katy.

Who will you face next on Victory Road? Will it be Brassius, Kofu, Iono, Larry, Ryme, Tulip or Grusha? Or maybe you’re ready to fight the Elite Four and Top Champion! Or maybe you want to continue with the Path of Legends and Starfall Street stories.
