How to catch Meltan in Pokémon Go using the Mystery Box

Do you want to catch a Meltan before the ‘Let’s Go, Meltan’ quest is completed, or just more to help you evolve Melmetal? Then you’ll need a copy of Pokémon Let’s Go on Nintendo Switch.

There are several steps to follow, so here is a step-by-step explanation.

How to catch Meltan in Pokémon Go using Pokémon Let’s Go

  1. Connect your Pokémon Go account to a Nintendo Switch copy of Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee.
  2. Transfer a Pokémon from Pokémon Go to Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee. (The Let’s Go account must have arrived at the Go Park in Fuchsia City to do this, which is about three-quarters of the way through the Let’s Go story.)
  3. As soon as you do, you will receive an item in Pokémon Go called a Mystery Box.
  4. Select the Mystery Box from the items menu and open it when you’re ready. This will cause Meltan to appear around you for 30 minutes.
  5. Catch as many Meltan as you can and don’t forget to use Pinap Berries on each one, since you’ll need those candies!
  6. You can only do this a maximum of once a week. More on the details later!

How to catch Melmetal in Pokémon Go

Catching Melmetal is pretty simple: the only way to get it is by evolving a Meltan. It costs a whopping 400 candies, so you’ll have to repeat the process several times!

Once you have enough Meltan Candy, it will be exactly the same as always, simply select evolve for the Meltan you wish to evolve, and Melmetal will be yours!

How to get Meltan in Pokémon Let’s Go and how to get the evolution of Melmetal

The two-way dependency between Pokémon Let’s Go on Switch and Pokémon Go continues here, as the only way to get a Meltan in Let’s Go is by trading it from Pokémon Go.

Otherwise, there is no way to catch or acquire a Meltan in Let’s Go on Switch, or a Melmetal, in Pokémon Let’s Go. Therefore, you must first obtain it in Pokémon Go and then trade it.

Also worth noting is the fact that, as far as we know, there is no way to turn Meltan into Melmetal once you’ve transferred Meltan to Let’s Go.

Since the transfer is one-way, meaning you can’t take any Pokémon from Let’s Go to Go, only from mobile Go to Switch’s Let’s Go, that means you must first evolve a Meltan in Pokémon Go and then transfer it. to Let’s Go, so that the great Melmetal also participates in Let’s Go.

Other things you should know about Pokémon Go Mystery Box, Meltan and Melmetal

There are quite a few details to keep in mind, due to all the technicalities that come into play with transferring Pokémon and also the new Mystery Box mechanics. Here we tell you everything you should keep in mind about each one.

How the Mystery Box works in Pokémon Go

  • You only get one Mystery Box: Once you’ve transferred a Pokémon from Go to Let’s Go for the first time, it will remain in your inventory permanently.
  • The Mystery Box only opens once a week; once you press Open, you have to wait seven full days to open it again.
  • You have to transfer a Pokémon from Go to Let’s Go every time you want to open it, so once the seven-day timer is up, transfer another Pokémon. It is not yet clear (since it has not been a week since the feature was launched) whether to wait until the counter runs out and so transfer a Pokémon, or if you can ‘stack’ them in advance, so to speak. We guess you’ll have to wait!
  • The Mystery Box only affects you in Pokémon Go; It basically works as a special type of incense, not a decoy. Meltan only appears to you, not to those around you at the time.
  • You can link as many Pokémon Go accounts as you want to a copy of Let’s Go, so one copy of Let’s Go can be a source of Mystery Boxes for an infinite number of different Pokémon Go accounts. We knew you could have several, but it’s good to confirm that there is no limit! Of course, it also means that it doesn’t have to be that way. his copy of Let’s go. You just need to have permission to link it to someone else’s.

How Meltan and Melmetal work and what you should know about them

  • Meltan is interchangeable, that is, between Pokémon Go accounts. It’s surprising for a mythical Pokémon, but we’ve tested it here at Eurogamer.
  • It seems a certain number of Meltan spawn every time you open the Mystery Box. We haven’t confirmed it yet, but for several of us here, 10 Meltan spawned during the 30 minutes, at roughly three-minute intervals.
  • Meltan is small! -He may sound silly, but keep in mind that Meltan is In fact small, so it can sometimes be difficult to spot in Pokémon Go, especially when it appears near you, a PokéStop, or another Pokémon in the game. Be attentive for those entire 30 minutes!
  • You can’t increase the spawn rate – decoys don’t seem to have any effect, and likewise the use of incense is blocked, as opening the Mystery Box counts as a kind of incense itself.
  • Of course, you can have more than one Meltan or Melmetal. It will probably take you a long time to get two Melmetal, but there’s no reason why you can’t do it!
  • You can get Meltan Candy by transferring it to Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee. You get the same amount of Candy from sending a Pokémon to Let’s Go as you do from transferring it to the Professor, so you won’t miss out if you send your Let’s Go game!
  • Meltan can be placed in gyms or as your friend in Pokémon Go. It’s 20km for a candy though, so you’ll have to walk a while!

What is Meltan and how was Meltan first revealed?

The mysterious Meltan appeared in the wild in Pokémon Go at the end of September Community Day, flooding the map en masse.

Although it looked like a normal creature, with its own animations and even appearing on nearby radar, there were some key differences:

  • I didn’t have a name or zip code.
  • Catching him would transform him into Ditto.
  • As a result, after you capture it, there is no record of it in your Pokédex or anywhere else.

30 minutes after appearing at the end of Community Day, the spawns dropped to rare or uncommon levels, similar to the spawn rate of a normal Ditto, and then disappeared completely.

At first it seemed that some of these Meltan-Ditto could transform back to Meltan, but then Pokémon issued a clarification:

Going crazy #Meltan, Coaches? 😉

Quick Tip: If you caught a Ditto posing as Meltan, that Ditto will not be able to transform again. Stay tuned for more details! pic.twitter.com/fKnZYjtKSc

A little later, the Pokémon Company released more trailers and videos, gradually revealing the nature of Meltan as an ancient Steel-type Mythical Pokémon, and the method of catching it with the new Mystery Box.

Now, of course, we know the exact information we need, so all that’s left to do is start transferring and then start capturing!
