How to catch Meltan in Pokémon Go using the Mystery Box
Do you want to catch a Meltan before the ‘Let’s Go, Meltan’ quest is completed, or just more to help you evolve Melmetal? Then you’ll need a copy of Pokémon Let’s Go on Nintendo Switch.

How to catch Meltan in Pokémon Go using Pokémon Let’s Go
- Connect your Pokémon Go account to a Nintendo Switch copy of Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee.
- Transfer a Pokémon from Pokémon Go to Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee. (The Let’s Go account must have arrived at the Go Park in Fuchsia City to do this, which is about three-quarters of the way through the Let’s Go story.)
- As soon as you do, you will receive an item in Pokémon Go called a Mystery Box.
- Select the Mystery Box from the items menu and open it when you’re ready. This will cause Meltan to appear around you for 30 minutes.

How to catch Melmetal in Pokémon Go
Catching Melmetal is pretty simple: the only way to get it is by evolving a Meltan. It costs a whopping 400 candies, so you’ll have to repeat the process several times!
Once you have enough Meltan Candy, it will be exactly the same as always, simply select evolve for the Meltan you wish to evolve, and Melmetal will be yours!
How to get Meltan in Pokémon Let’s Go and how to get the evolution of Melmetal
The two-way dependency between Pokémon Let’s Go on Switch and Pokémon Go continues here, as the only way to get a Meltan in Let’s Go is by trading it from Pokémon Go.
Otherwise, there is no way to catch or acquire a Meltan in Let’s Go on Switch, or a Melmetal, in Pokémon Let’s Go. Therefore, you must first obtain it in Pokémon Go and then trade it.
Also worth noting is the fact that, as far as we know, there is no way to turn Meltan into Melmetal once you’ve transferred Meltan to Let’s Go.

- You have to transfer a Pokémon from Go to Let’s Go every time you want to open it, so once the seven-day timer is up, transfer another Pokémon. It is not yet clear (since it has not been a week since the feature was launched) whether to wait until the counter runs out and so transfer a Pokémon, or if you can ‘stack’ them in advance, so to speak. - The Mystery Box only affects you in Pokémon Go; It basically works as a special type of incense, not a decoy. Meltan only appears to you, not to those around you at the time.

- Meltan can be placed in gyms or as your friend in Pokémon Go. It’s 20km for a candy though, so you’ll have to walk a while!
What is Meltan and how was Meltan first revealed?
