The XP Challenge will be valid during January 2022 in Pokémon Go.
This is the second monthly challenge presented as part of Heritage Season, the first being last month’s Stardust Challenge.
Throughout January, you’ll receive double XP for your first catch every day, and if you have access, you’ll be able to complete the XP challenge to earn a new avatar item.

How to access the XP Challenge in Pokémon Go
If you want to complete the XP Challenge in Pokémon Go, you must pre-purchase a ticket for Tour: Johto before Monday, January 10, 2022.
These tickets can be obtained through the in-game store (accessed through the main menu) and cannot be purchased with PokéCoin. A ticket costs £9.99 / $11.99.
Pre-purchasing a ticket will not only grant you access to the XP Challenge and the full Tour: Johto event, but also the Catch Challenge coming in February.
XP Challenge mission steps and rewards in Pokémon Go
Below you will find all the requirements and rewards for the January XP Challenge in Pokémon Go.
This section contains spoilers for the full mission, so if you want to be surprised, we recommend skipping it.
The XP Challenge, like last month’s Stardust Challenge, is divided into an overall account of XP that you’ll earn for the main reward and 15 individual steps.
The Goomy Hat for your avatar is the ultimate reward for this challenge.
It’s important to note that while the overall count records every piece of XP you earn until you reach the goal, individual steps reset. This means that if you receive 10,000 XP when you are 100 XP short of completing a step, the remaining XP will not count as progress toward the next step.
The main reward for the XP Challenge is the Goomy Hat, and if you don’t complete or participate in the challenge, this item will be available in the in-game Avatar Shop when January ends.
Playing daily, catching a good number of Pokémon, participating in raids, increasing your friendship level, and completing special or timed research quests are all great ways to earn XP. If you haven’t completed the XP Challenge by the last few days of January, we recommend using a Lucky Egg to double your XP gains.
In addition to the rewards listed below, you will also receive a small amount of XP for completing each step.

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! The Out to Play event is currently taking place. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.
XP Challenge dates and bonuses in Pokémon Go
The XP Challenge includes a bonus that will be available during January 2022 and will be available to everyone, whether you have previously purchased a ticket for Tour: Johto or not.
This bonus is double the catch XP for your first catch of the day.
Both the XP Challenge and its bonus will be available from Saturday, January 1 to Monday, January 31, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. (local time). Remember: To participate in the XP Challenge you must pre-purchase a ticket for Tour: Johto by Monday, January 10, 2022.
Pre-purchasing this ticket will also grant you access to the February challenge, which focuses on the number of Pokémon you catch.
