Ultra Beast Protection Efforts, released during the Greedy Gluttons event in November 2022, are the latest in a line of Team Go Rocket themed quests in Pokémon Go.
This is a set of tasks that focus on defeating Team Go Rocket in Pokémon Go, introducing new Shadow Pokémon and rewards, but you can expect the familiar challenge of trainer battles and capturing Shadow Pokémon before taking on the leaders and eventually , to Giovanni himself. .
You will also be rewarded with experience and a variety of items for each quest step you complete.

Below you will find the four mission steps, including individual challenges and rewards, for Ultra Beast protection efforts in Pokémon Go.
Remember: You must have completed your previous Team Go Rocket research mission, which began with A Worrying Situation in 2019, to access this mission. These may be Field Notes: Team Go Rocket, which was added to the game in July 2022.

How Ultra Beast Protection Efforts Work in Pokémon Go
Ultra Beast Protection Efforts, which appeared in November 2022 at the beginning of the Greedy Gluttons event, is the last in the Team Go Rocket questline.
To access this research mission, you must first complete the ‘tutorial’ mission, A Worrying Situation, and complete any previous Team Go Rocket missions you have already started, such as A Development Between Egg Stings and The Grim Threat Grows.
Don’t worry if you’re too far behind in the Team Go Rocket lineup, because once you’ve completed your current Rocket mission, you’ll automatically jump to the most recent mission.
Each Team Go Rocket mission is based on defeating the criminal organization’s grunts and purifying Shadow Pokémon, which can be found in invaded PokéStops around the world.
You will also have to fight the leaders Arlo, Cliff and Sierra and, eventually, Giovanni.
Remember, the highlighted Shadow Legendary that is available with the debut of the quest (in the case of Ultra Beast Protection Efforts, this is Shadow Mewtwo) is technically not part of the quest itself, but rather the reward for fighting Giovanni. This means that if you have multiple Super Rocket Radars, you can battle Giovanni multiple times and capture several of the highlighted Shadow Legendary Pokémon.
Aside from these specific tasks, Team Go Rocket works exactly like other investigation missions, challenging you to complete a series of objectives in a specific order.
You’ll have a good amount of time to complete Ultra Beast’s protection efforts. These types of missions don’t expire, but ideally you’ll want to complete everything before the next Go Rocket mission arrives, usually within three months, to ensure you can start it quickly.
The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.
Tips for Completing Ultra Beast Protection Efforts
Here are some tips to help you complete your Ultra Beast protection efforts in Pokémon Go:
- Don’t forget to use Pinap Berries when catching Shadow Pokémon to ensure you collect enough candy to purify the Pokémon once it’s yours.
- Before fighting the three leaders of Team Go Rocket and Giovanni, be sure to check the possibilities of their lineups so you can plan an effective counterattack team.
- Since both the Leaders and Giovanni have a selection of Pokémon they can use, it’s a good idea to research their team before properly defeating them, as long as you have some healing items on standby for this first “test” encounter. You can do this by using a Pokémon that is guaranteed to defeat their first Pokémon, which will always be the same, and, once you know what their second choice is, you can plan accordingly. Just remember that their lineup may change if you move to a different PokéStop.
