Animals were introduced to Fortnite at the beginning of Chapter 2, Season 6, and eventually brought wildlife to the island.
To benefit from its varied loot and other features, you will need to know the locations of jellyfish, chickens, birds, and frogs in Fortnite.

Animals and animal locations in Fortnite explained
Animals and wildlife refer to the four creatures that intermittently roam the map: chickens, birds, jellyfish, and frogs.
Killing different types of animals in Fortnite will reward you with different loot, mainly meat, but killing crows and chickens can also reward you with weapons. The jellyfish in the sky will give you a shield and launch you into the air when you walk towards them.
Animals can appear all over the map, but because they have the ability to wander, they may not always be in the same place every game. Depending on the type of animal, they may also prefer some types of placement over others.
Although it’s not guaranteed, it’s worth visiting some specific locations if you’re looking for a certain type of animal.
These are the preferred locations for animals (if they have one) in Fortnite:
- Chickens are most likely to be found in agricultural areas and in or around the countryside. Think Frenzy Fields. The snow biome is also a great place to look, especially in the area between Lonely Labs and Slappy Shores.
- Frogs like to jump near water, like rivers. There is a lake south of Anvil Square and a pond in Frenzy Fields that are worth visiting.
- Celestial jellyfish are found in the areas between named places. They are always found in large groups, float in the air and emit a blue glow. Using a magnification to ping nearby enemies will mark jellyfish in the sky and make them easier to see.
You can find solitary animals walking around the island.
If you are going hunting, we recommend making sure you have the game’s sound effects at 100%, because each animal has a specific sound that you will be able to hear when others are nearby, whether you can see it or not. .
Turning on ‘Display sound effects’ in your sound settings can also help you locate animals in Fortnite by displaying the direction they are facing on your HUD when you are near one.

Fortnite Animal Loot Drops
Each animal you kill in Fortnite will drop different types of loot, which you can use to gain health and shields. Some animals even drop weapons when killed.

The case of sky jelly is a little different here. You don’t really kill them. Instead, touching them causes them to explode, launching you into the air and granting you some shielding.
Fortnite Chicken Locations
If you’re looking for chickens in Fortnite, then it’s a good idea to visit one of the farms, a wooded area, or just walk through the countryside. You can encounter both groups of chickens, usually two or three, or just one, so it usually won’t be long until you find one. Try watching Frenzy Fields.
When a chicken is nearby, you will be able to hear it clucking, so be sure to head towards that sound if you are hunting animals. A chicken symbol will also appear on your HUD if you have “Display sound effects” turned on.
Chickens are not aggressive animals, but they can sometimes charge you if you get too close. They will usually run away quickly, so we recommend hunting them down as quickly as possible to avoid losing your prey or attracting the attention of another player.
Chickens can be used to slide if you pick them up.
Chickens can also be used to fly around the map Legend of Zelda style; just make sure you jump from a higher area or you won’t go anywhere.
Once you have killed a chicken, it will drop a piece of meat, which can be used as a healing item. If you are lucky to encounter a bright purple chicken, it will also drop an epic weapon, and bright orange chickens will drop a legendary weapon.
Fortnite Bird Locations
Birds, also known as crows, are passive animals that fly through the skies of the Fortnite map, but they can be difficult to find as they have no particular spawning location. To help locate birds, make sure you have “Display Sound Effects” turned on to see a bird symbol appear on your HUD when one is nearby.
If you see a bird, it is easier to eliminate it once it has landed on the ground or perched on a structure, as it is easier to aim when the crow is stationary. While you don’t want the crow to run away, it doesn’t have much health, so if you have a weapon you feel confident with, it’s best to shoot the bird right away for some loot.
Eliminating a bird will drop two pieces of meat as loot, which can be used as a health item. If you encounter a bright purple bird, it will also drop an epic weapon, and bright orange birds will drop a legendary weapon.

Fortnite Frog Locations
Due to their small size, frogs are one of the hardest animals to find in Fortnite. The best thing you can do is go to an area close to water, such as river beds, and listen to the sound of their squawking. A frog symbol will also appear on your HUD if you have “Display sound effects” enabled.
The banks of the river near La Ciudadela are among the best places to observe, as the frogs lay their eggs around the water.
Frogs can be quite fast.
While frogs will never attack you and can be killed by a bullet, they can jump quite quickly. For this reason, it’s a good idea to follow a frog at a distance until it stops moving, giving you the opportunity to quickly shoot it.
The frog will then drop a piece of meat, which can be used as a healing item.
Fortnite Sky Jelly Locations
Finally, let’s take a look at celestial jellyfish. These creatures can be found throughout the map, but tend to be found with higher spawn rates in the yellow/orange biome of the map. This means the forests around Anvil Square and The Citadel, as well as the southeast region of the map. We’ve marked some locations below, although keep in mind that they’re not always in the same places.
