New Year’s Celebration Field Research Tasks in Pokémon Go

You can collect event-exclusive Field Research Tasks during the New Year’s Celebration event by spinning PokéStops in Pokémon Go. These tasks can be saved to your Field Research Collection and completed after the event is over, if you wish.

Here are the New Year’s Celebration field research tasks:

  • Reward for hatching 2 eggs – 2023 Stardust
  • Reward for hatching an egg: 1000 Stardust

Thanks to SilphScience from reddit for the help with this information!

Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle and Pikachu will appear in festive outfits.

Featured attacks during the New Year’s Celebration event in Pokémon Go

Reshiram.

As is tradition, there will be a specific Pokémon in the five-star raid that knows an exclusive move. In this case, we are looking at Reshiram.

Catch a Reshiram before January 4, 2023 at 8 pm (local time) and it will learn its signature fire-type charged attack, Fusion Flare.

Fusion Flare has the following power in Pokémon Go:

  • Trainer Battles – 90 Power
  • Gyms and raids – 140 power

This is a good buff for Reshiram, as it will deal a lot of damage for its energy cost. It’s also much better than Overheat, Reshiram’s only other Fire-type charged move, as it doesn’t come with a guaranteed two-stage debuff to your attack. Your optimal moveset now looks like this: Dragon Breath (Fast), Fusion Flare (Exclusive Charged), and Draco Meteor (Charged).

Everything you need to know about the New Year’s celebration event in Pokémon Go

In addition to Reshiram, you can also battle the following Pokémon in raids during the New Year’s celebration:

A star Three stars Five stars Mega
Bulbasaur with party hat Raticate with party hat Reshiram Mega Steelix
Charmander with party hat Nidorino with party hat
Squirtle with party hat Gengar with party hat
Pikachu with party top hat Wobbuffet with party hat
Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit

Mega Steelix.

wild spawns

The following Pokémon appear most frequently in the wild during the New Year’s Celebration event:

  • Pikachu with party top hat
  • Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit
  • Wurmple with party hat

All three can be shiny and Hoothoot with this costume can now evolve!

Bonuses for egg reservation and hatching

The 7 km egg group will have the following Pokémon:

  • Pichu with party hat
  • Clefa
  • Igglybuff
  • Togepi
  • tirago
  • Kiss
  • Elekid
  • Magby
  • azurill
  • Wynaut

Again, all of these can be shiny, so if you’re missing one of them, this may be your chance to get it.

By the way, there will be a half hatch distance bonus along with the event, along with a quarter hatch distance bonus for the first three eggs hatched using the widget. This means that if you can place a 12 km egg in an incubator using the widget on your phone’s home screen, it should hatch after just 3 km!

A new collection of stickers and avatar items can now be purchased from the in-game store, including a very cute Pikachu sticker and a Party Popper avatar pose.

Of course, seasonal stickers will be available. (Image via pokemongolive.com)

Collection Challenge

Finally, there is a collection challenge that you must complete before 8 pm (local time) on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. If you do not meet this deadline, the challenge will expire and you will not be able to earn all the rewards it offers. Add it to your medal collection.

The challenge is relatively easy: simply catch a Pikachu wearing a party top hat and a Hoothoot New Year’s outfit, and then evolve said Hoothoot into a Noctowl New Year’s outfit.

The rewards for the Collection Challenge are, as expected, 2023 Stardust.

Several other Pokémon Go events will take place during the New Year’s Celebration event.

Pokémon in disguise

The New Year’s costume, Noctowl, will make its debut in Pokémon Go: catch a Hoothoot in a similar costume and evolve to add this Pokémon to your collection.

Pikachu also makes a new debut, this time wearing a star-studded party top hat. If flashy Pikachus are your thing, here’s one to look forward to.

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! Its first event is A Paldean Adventure, which sees the true launch of Gen 9 and the special research mission A Paldean Adventure. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.
