The Lunar New Year event in Pokémon Go celebrates Litleo as the year of the tiger begins.

There are two Lunar New Year research quests – Catch Challenge and Friendship Challenge – that you can complete and Hisuian Voltorb is still spawning in the wild, so be sure to catch this new regional variant.

The Lunar New Year: Catch Challenge is the first of two timed research quests available during this year’s Lunar New Year event in Pokémon Go.

This is a timed research mission, so you only have until the end of the Lunar New Year event (Monday, February 7) to complete it.

‘Lunar New Year: Catch Challenge’ Step 1 of 1

  • Catch 10 Pokémon – 10 Poké Balls
  • Catch 25 Pokémon – 15 Big Balls
  • Catch 25 Fire-type Pokémon – 20 Ultra Balls
  • Catch 10 different species of Pokémon: encounter with Litleo

Rewards: 1000 Stardust, 1000 XP and an encounter with Espurr

The Lunar New Year: Friendship Challenge is the second timed research quest you can complete during the 2022 Lunar New Year event in Pokémon Go.

Like the previous quest, the Friendship Challenge is a timed research quest, which means that if you want all the rewards, you must complete it before the Lunar New Year event ends.

  • Send 5 gifts and add a sticker to each one – Encounter with Torchic
  • Trade 3 Pokémon with a friend – Corphish Encounter
  • Send 15 gifts to friends – Darumaka Gathering
  • Send Gifts 3 Days in a Row – Litleo Meeting

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! The Out to Play event is currently taking place. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

Lunar New Year Field Research Tasks in Pokémon Go

You can collect Field Research Tasks exclusive to the Lunar New Year event in Pokémon Go by spinning PokéStops or Gyms. These tasks can be saved and completed whenever you want!

These are the Lunar New Year field research tasks:

  • Reward for catching 5 Pokémon: 25 Gyarados Mega Energy
  • Reward for capturing 12 Pokémon: encounter with Darumaka
  • Earn a raid reward: Espurr encounter
  • Reward for hatching an egg: encounter with Galarian Meowth or Alolan Meowth
  • Send 3 Gift Reward – Magikarp Encounter
  • Send 3 gifts and add a sticker to each reward – Encounter with Litleo
  • Exchange a Pokémon Reward: Encounter with Espurr

Lunar New Year Generations and Event Bonuses in Pokémon Go

The Lunar New Year event has a number of friendship-related bonuses, including double Stardust when opening Gifts and a higher chance of becoming Lucky Friends, that you can take advantage of. You can also enjoy an additional special trade per day and a higher chance of receiving lucky Pokémon from any trade.

2022 is the year of the tiger, which means that in Pokémon Go, it is the year of Litleo and, to celebrate, the shiny form of this Pokémon was released.

Litleo will appear more frequently in the wild, increasing your chances of finding this shiny, along with the following Pokémon:

  • Gyarados
  • Torch
  • Combusken

Mega Houndoom has also returned to Mega Raids!

Shuckle, Slugma and Scraggy are in the 7km egg pool for the Lunar New Year event.

Dates and times of Lunar New Year events in Pokémon Go

The Lunar New Year event for 2022 will take place from Tuesday, February 1 to Monday, February 7 at 8 pm (local time) in Pokémon Go.

It is important to note, however, that the extra special daily trading bonus will be available until Tuesday, February 8 at the following times:

  • United Kingdom – 21:00 (GMT)
  • Europe – 10:00 p.m. (CEST)
  • US East Coast: 4 pm (EST)
  • US West Coast – 1:00 PM (PST)
