Pokémon Go Hoenn Event – bonuses, end date and everything we know

Civilization 6 Religious Victory - how to win with Religion, gain Followers and convert cities

Pokémon Go’s Hoenn event is the next “catch-up” style event coming to the game, allowing you to stock up on any of those Gen 3 monsters you may have missed so far.

It’s not the most elaborate event, but here’s a quick summary of all the essential details, including the end date and time of the Hoenn event, all known bonuses, and anything else you should know.

In this page:

Pokémon Go Hoenn Event Start Time

The Hoenn event began on January 15, 2019 and once again follows the same rules as most Pokémon Go events in terms of start times.

In other words, it started at:

  • United Kingdom: 9:00 p.m. (BST)
  • Europe: 10:00 p.m. (CEST)
  • US East Coast: 4 pm (EDT)
  • US West Coast: 1:00 PM (PDT)

Pokémon Go Hoenn Event End Date

The Hoenn event ends on January 29, 2019, at the same time as the previous one, and Niantic this time chose to give us official information about the specific ending times in advance.

Pokémon Go Hoenn Event Bonuses, Rewards, and Details

The Hoenn Event brings a variety of bonuses and changes to the game, so starting January 15, here’s a look at what you can expect:

  • Improved Gen 3 Generations: Pokémon like Gen 3 starters Treeko, Torchic, and Mudkip will appear more frequently, as well as many other Hoenn-based Pokémon.
  • Returning Raid Bosses: Kyogre and Groudon, some of the best Pokémon in Pokémon Go, return as legendary raid bosses, as well as the return of other Gen 3 raid bosses to return at lower levels as well.
  • Field Research highlighting Generation 3 Pokémon – these include evolving three Wurmple for a Trapinch encounter, hatching 2 eggs for a Nosepass, and catching ten Zigzagoon or Taillow for 1000x Stardust.
  • Hoenn Pokémon in 7km eggs: Expect a “higher chance” of them hatching from 7km eggs. We’ve updated our Pokémon Go egg chart now that we know of the changes.
  • Breloom Exclusive Move – A bit of a strange one: If you evolve a Shroomish into Breloom during the event, Breloom will learn an exclusive move, Grass Knot, much like how Community Day exclusive moves work, it seems. This will make Breloom the best Grass type for DPS (damage per second), according to calculations by players like eric654256 on reddit, but keep in mind that DPS is much less relevant in PvP battles, where full damage occurs before cause a Pokémon to faint. It’s more useful and Breloom’s low defenses slow it down! Breloom has also been confirmed to have this move if you catch him in a Raid.
  • New Shinies: A couple more Gen 3s to add to the list of Shiny Pokémon: Shiny Zigzagoon, Taillow, and even Groudon can now be found.
  • Hoenn Cosmetic Items in Store: New avatar outfits, “inspired by Team Magma and Team Aqua, the original villains of the Hoenn region in Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire,” can also be purchased once the event begins.

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! The Halloween event has returned, bringing with it Greavard and Houndstone. Party Play, Pokémon Go’s multiplayer feature, is here, along with the Welcome Party quest. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

What is Hoenn? Details about Pokémon’s third region and why this Hoenn event is happening:

Hoenn is the home of the Generation 3 Pokémon and is of course the third region we were introduced to through the original Pokémon games.

Hoenn is the setting for the main Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald games.

Why an event in Hoenn now? Well, the first event like this, Kanto Week in 2018, was designed to help players complete their gold and silver badges for the Kanto region, as they were included in the special research tasks in the quest for the Mythical Pokémon Mew from Kanto.

With Hoenn, however, there is still no sign of its remaining Mythical Pokémon, Jirachi, which we can probably expect to arrive in the game through similar methods to the Mythical Mew, Celebi, and Meltan before it. Maybe this Hoenn event is a sign that it’s coming soon? Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking.
