Galarian Yamask made its first appearance in Pokémon Sword and Shield as one of the 14 original Galar variants, which are Pokémon from previous generations that have a different appearance and type in the Galar regions.
Regional variants made their first appearance in Gen 7 with the Alolan Pokémon.
Unlike a typical Generation 5 Yamask, Galarian Yamask is a joint Ground- and Ghost-type Pokémon. It also evolves into the Gen 8 Pokémon Runerigus, instead of Cofagrigus.
Runerigus is also a Ground and Ghost-type Pokémon that appears to be built from abandoned rune stones.
A Gen 5 Yamask will evolve into a Cofagrigus.
How to catch a Galarian Yamask in Pokémon Go
The easiest way to catch a Galarian Yanmask in Pokémon Go is to complete the special research quest, A Spooky Message Unmasked.
Doing so will earn you an encounter with a Galarian Yamask, which you can have as your friend to collect more Yamask candy if necessary and eventually evolve into a Runerigus.
