The Pokémon Go Fighting event, more officially known as Battle Showdown, takes place in the first half of May and with it comes a series of bonuses for a short time only.
Trainers will find a larger number of select fighting Pokémon, including Makuhita, Meditite, Medicham, and Hariyama, as well as a variety of bonuses for Gym and Raid Battles, which is something new for these types of events.
When does the Pokémon Go Fighting event end?
The Pokémon Go Fighting event began at 1am PST (i.e. 9:00pm UK time) on May 1st.
It’s scheduled to end on May 14, and while no specific time has been mentioned, it will probably be the same time: 9pm UK time, 1am BST.
Makuhita, Meditite, Medicham, Hariyama and other Pokémon in the Fighting event
One of the main attractions of the event is the different spawns and, according to Niantic, we can expect to see more “Fighting-type Pokémon” appear in the wild. The types of fights you can expect include:
- Meditita and Medicham evolution
- Makuhita and Hariyam evolution
- Mankey (and Primape evolution)

Elsewhere, Tyrogue will hatch from eggs more frequently over the duration of the event, while encounters with Combusken (evolution of Torchic), Breloom (evolution of Shroomish), Primape, Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan will also appear in raids.
In previous events where different themed Pokémon appeared, such as on Halloween and Christmas, spawns appeared everywhere, not just in their natural biomes, and this seems to be the same.

Other bonuses and features of the Pokémon Go Fighting Type event
In addition to a change in the appearance of creatures, the event will also offer the following:
- 2x XP for battles and gym raids
- Raid Battles will give away 3000 Stardust and at least 1x Rare Candy for winning
- 2x Gym Badge Multiplier, including defense time
- More Photo Discs items to be released in gyms
- Possibility of Meditite and Makuhita being Shiny
