Hit Play / 1994 is one of the debut challenges for PlayStation Stars, the rewards service for PlayStation players.
The PlayStation Stars service, launching in October 2022, tasks players with playing to earn digital rewards, including points and collectibles.
At launch, Hit Play/1994 is perhaps the most challenging: where you’re only given cryptic clues to solve each objective. To complete each one, you must load each respective game linked to the track.
Your knowledge of the music of the era will help you, but this page will explain each answer to the Hit Play / 1994 music challenge if you’re not up to it.

Press Play / Response to 1994 ‘Stay x Circle of Life’
To complete the Stay x Circle of Life objective, you must play Returnal. This is only available on PS5 and is available as part of an additional PlayStation Plus subscription.
Press Play / Response to 1994 ‘Baby I Love Your Way x Go West’
To complete the Baby I Love Your Way x Go West objective, you must play Death Stranding. This is on PS4 and PS5 (we tried the Director’s Cut of the latter, which worked) and both can be played as part of an additional PlayStation Plus subscription.
Dale Play / 1994 ‘Mr. Jones x Regulate Response
To complete the Mr. Jones x Regulate objective, you must play Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. This is on PS4 and can be played as part of a PlayStation Plus Essential subscription as part of the PS Plus Collection.
Press Play / Answer ‘More human than human’ from 1994
To complete the More Human Than Human objective, you must play Detroit: Become Human. This is on PS4 and can be played as part of a PlayStation Plus Essential subscription as part of the PS Plus Collection.
Press Play / Response to ‘Wild Night’ from 1994
To complete the Wild Night objective, you must play Until Dawn. This is on PS4 and can be played as part of a PlayStation Plus Essential subscription as part of the PS Plus Collection.
Press Play / Response to ‘Streets of Philadelphia’ from 1994
To complete the Wild Night objective, you must play Heavy Rain. This is for PS4, and while we couldn’t find it at any PlayStation Plus subscription level, we had already redeemed it as part of an early monthly free PlayStation Plus giveaway, so we hope you’re in a similar situation.

Once you have solved the answers above, you will receive the ‘Sony Chord Machine’, a heroic collectible that was a “portable boombox and cassette recorder” from 1982.
A MiniDisc player would have been more appropriate, or even a CD player, if you want to trace your roots specifically to the original PlayStation, but getting our hands on any classic Sony technology, even if it’s digital, is fine with us.
