The New Pokémon Snap update introduces new courses to the Lental region, but you must unlock these new areas first.
There are six new courses in total divided into Mightywide River, Barren Badlands and Secret Side Path.

How to get the New Pokémon Snap update
Before attempting to update New Pokémon Snap, you should make sure your Nintendo Switch is connected to the Internet. You can easily do this by selecting “System Settings” on the console home page and scrolling down until you reach the “Internet” option.
Here you can test your Internet connection and create a new one if necessary.
After this, New Pokémon Snap should update automatically when you try to start the game.
If this doesn’t happen, press the plus (+) button on the right Joy Con to check if you are playing version 2.0.0 of New Pokémon Snap. If so, go ahead and play! – but if not, select “Software Update” followed by “Over the Internet” to download the update.
You’ll know if the content patch has downloaded successfully because once you start New Pokémon Snap, a list of the new courses will appear. This update also includes new filters, stickers, frames, profile icons, research tasks, and requests.
How to Unlock Secret Side Path Day and Night Courses in New Pokémon Snap
To unlock the Secret Side Path courses in New Pokémon Snap, you must first select ‘Research’ and watch the cutscene featuring the Neo-One’s new shrinking ability.
After this, head to the Park (Day) tour and travel through the natural park to the area containing the lake. Here you will want to scan the tree right in front of the lake, which will be to your left.
Scan this tree!
Now you will shrink and travel the route of the Secret Path! At the end of this tour, you will return to your normal size and find yourself in the flower meadow at the end of the park tour.
Then, the Side Path (Day) and Side Path (Night) courses will be unlocked automatically. In these courses you will find new Pokémon such as Shroomish, Foongus and Snorlax.
A quick note for completionists: you will always return to your normal size in the flower meadow at the end of the Side Path courses, where you will find a number of new Pokémon, which can be added to the course maps of both Parks ( Day ) and Park (Night).
How to Unlock Mightywide River Day and Night Courses in New Pokémon Snap
The Mightywide River (Day) course will automatically unlock once you update New Pokémon Snap. In this course you will find new Pokémon such as Psyduck, Feraligatr and Tropius.
To unlock the River (Night) Course, you must reach Research Level 2 in the River (Day) Course by earning 45,000 Expedition Points.
How to Unlock the Barren Badlands Day and Night Courses in New Pokémon Snap
The Barren Badlands (Day) course will be unlocked automatically after New Pokémon Snap updates. Throughout this course, you’ll see a variety of new Pokémon, including Tepig, Diglett, and Crustle.
To unlock the Badlands (Night) Course, you must earn 40,000 Expedition Points to reach Research Level 2 in the Badlands (Day) Course.
