Mario Kart 8 Deluxe unlockables list

Get ready to play a lot of tracks to get everything you need.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s unlockables are a bit simpler than its Wii U counterpart, and most things are already available from the start.

However, those who need an incentive to play are in luck: they still have several car parts to unlock, as long as they can collect enough coins.

Meanwhile, for those up for a bigger challenge, you can unlock Gold Mario in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Unlockables List

Here’s how you unlock all Mario Kart 8 skins for both Switch and Wii U:

  • Characters: The Switch version automatically unlocks all characters from the beginning, except Gold Mario. On Wii U, a character will be unlocked randomly each time you win a cup, apart from the DLC characters that are already available.
  • Courses: The Switch version automatically unlocks all tracks from the beginning, including later added DLC. You will have to gradually unlock them on Wii U by completing previous cups.
  • Modes: All modes are automatically unlocked on Switch. On Wii U, Mirror Mode is available once you complete all 150cc cups, while 200cc is available as part of a free game update.

The Koopa Clown kart is new to the Switch version.

  • Kart Parts: On both platforms, all parts, whether bodies, wheels or gliders, will unlock as you collect coins, which are scattered on the tracks during races. Pieces will unlock randomly every 30 coins collected on Switch (or every 50 coins collected on Wii U), increasing to 50 coins at the 500 coin milestone (or every 100 coins at the 1000 coin milestone on Wii U) .

The exception to random releases is on Wii U, where DLC pieces will be automatically available upon purchase. On Switch, DLC parts (including the Mercedes DLC) are included as part of the list.

On Switch, the unlockable parts in numbers are:

    • 23 karts (including Switch’s new Koopa Clown)
    • 17 bikes (including Switch’s two new Splatoon vehicles, Inkstriker and Splat Buggy)
    • 21 wheels
    • 14 gliders

Best of luck with the above, especially with Gold Mario!
