How to switch ships in Starfield

It is very important to know how to change your ship in Starfield, especially if you have collected ships for specific reasons. You may have a ship fully equipped for scientific research, another built exclusively for combat, and another with armored cargo that can help you smuggle contraband.

Having a ship that suits your needs in Starfield can make exploring the vast expanse of space a little less stressful, and changing which ship you want to use is pretty simple once you know how. Plus, best of all, changing boats is completely free!

Without further ado, we’re here to show you how to change your ships in Starfield.

How to change ships in Starfield

You can change your ships in Starfield by setting the one you want to use as your home ship.

We found that there are a couple of ways to set your home ship in Starfield. The first is relatively simple: when you take control of a ship and take off on it, the ship you are currently flying will be marked as your “home” ship and your previous ship will return to your inventory.

The other way to change your home boat is to talk to a boat technician. So far, we have found naval technicians who will do this in the following locations:

  • On the New Atlantis landing pad at Jemison, in the Alpha Centauri system.
  • At the Akila City landing pad within the boat services at Akila in the Cheyenne system.
  • On the landing pad of Neon’s internal ship services on Volii Alpha in the Volii system.
  • Inside the Red Mile in Porrima III, talk to Lon Andersson inside the Red Mile entrance area.

When you talk to them, select the “I would like to view and modify my ships” option when it appears.

This will take you to an overview of your ships. Scroll through your ship inventory to the one you want to be your home ship and then look at the command bar in the bottom right corner of the screen. You should see the “Ship to Home” option here.

Use the indicated message to mark the ship as your home ship. Remember, you can only have one home ship at a time.
