How to get the Oak Card in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Before you can get the Oak Card in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you need to make sure you have unlocked the Mystery Gift feature.
After doing so, or if you already have Mystery Gift unlocked, be sure to download Oak’s Letter before Sunday, March 27. Once this date has passed, you will no longer be able to receive Oak’s Letter and, in turn, Shaymin.
Finally, you’ll need an internet connection to download Oak’s Letter, but fortunately, you don’t need a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
It’s important to note that while you can only catch Shaymin during the post-game, you can download Oak’s Letter at any time in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Because of this, we highly recommend getting Oak’s Letter regardless of your progress in the game, so as not to miss the opportunity to catch Shaymin.
When you’re ready, download Oak’s Letter by following these steps:
- Start Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Brilliant Pearl
- Start playing and open the X menu.
- Select ‘Mystery Gift’
- Select ‘Get over the Internet’ and connect to the Internet.
- Select ‘Oak’s Letter’ from gift list
- Oak’s card will now appear in the Key Item Pocket of your inventory.

How to get Shaymin in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
To get Shaymin in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you must first unlock the National Pokédex.
Once you’ve done this, you need to visit Route 224. This area can only be accessed after the game, but since you already have the National Pokédex, it will already be open to you.
The easiest way to get to Route 224 is to fly to the Pokémon League and, from here, enter Victory Road.
Inside Victory Road, you must cross the bridge directly south of the entrance and go down the climbable rocks. From there, follow the path north and go up the stairs near the trainer.
Then, go up the stairs and follow the path east until you reach an entrance, which you must go through. Head into this new tunnel to reach an area that requires you to use Defog to continue.
If it is your first time visiting this cavern, Marley will greet you and accompany you to the exit. If you’ve met her before, you’ll have to do it alone.
Either way, there are two routes through this cavern: the high path, which involves more trainer battles if you’re with Marley, or the low path, which avoids most of these fights. Whichever route you take will take you to the exit of the cavern where Marley will depart from if you have been traveling with her.

To do this, you must first make sure Shaymin is on your team and then visit Floaroma Town. Once there, he talks to the woman near the sign right above the Pokémon Center.
She will give you the Gracidea, which can be found in the Key Items pocket of your inventory.
Selecting Gracidea in your inventory will give you the opportunity to use it on Shaymin, and doing so will transform this Pokémon into its grass-type and flying-type Sky Form.
