ODM Gear in Fortnite is a new equippable item that you can use to move around the map and you must use it to complete some of the mission challenges to unlock Eren Jaeger.
The first step to completing any of these challenges in Fortnite is to locate some of the ODM gear. Fortunately, there are several ways to get your hands on this useful traversal and attack-based tool.
Without further ado, we will show you how to find ODM Gear in Fortnite, how to use it, and we will explain the challenges that require it.

How to find ODM gear in Fortnite
ODM Gear in Fortnite can be found as ground loot scattered around the map, in treasure chests, or in special Scout Regiment chests. Additionally, as with most loot in Fortnite, you can also pick it up from downed players who dropped their ODM gear.
Land Loot
You can find ODM Gear as ground loot, it can be anywhere on the map. Inside or outside a building, hidden on top or under a bridge. You’ll likely find it simply by accident while running around the map.
However, we have frequently found ODM Gear as ground loot in Anvil Square, The Citadel, and Frenzy Fields.
Treasure chests
You can also find ODM Gear by opening treasure chests scattered around the map. Not all treasure chests will have this item, so it’s really a game of chance whether or not you’ll find one this way.
We recommend opening any you find because the chests can still contain good loot and a good amount of gold.
Scout Regiment Trunks
You’re almost guaranteed to find ODM gear in the scout regiment’s trunks. These are Attack on Titan themed loot boxes hidden around the map and you’ll have to do a little searching to find them. They are usually hidden somewhere out of sight or in a room.
We often find Scout Regiment trunks at The Citadel and Anvil Square.

How to use ODM gear in Fortnite
Once you’ve gotten your hands on ODM Gear, it’s time to learn how to use it. The ODM Gear essentially works like a grappling hook: you point it where you want to go, fire the gear, and you’ll be dragged toward your target.
You can then choose to spin around your target or jump while moving to launch into a glide. You can move pretty quickly doing this and it’s great for gaining an advantage against your enemies.
Balancing with ODM gear
To use ODM Gear, equip it as you would a normal weapon and then look at the left side of the screen. Here you should see two control/command messages. Use the one with “Grapple” written next to it.
Then look around you. You should see a circle appear on your screen. If there is an ‘X’ in the middle, it means you cannot use the ODM Gear where you are facing. If the circle is complete, you can use the gear.
All you have to do once you’ve completed the circle is press the indicated control/command to reach your goal. Continue to hold down the control/command and move the directional stick to turn as you are drawn towards your target.
If you want to launch yourself off the swing, use your jump command while you are being thrown and you should be launched. During this, you can look around and lock on to another target or you can drop down. You do not take fall damage while wearing ODM Gear.
Attack with ODM equipment
You can also attack with ODM Gear (which will help you complete another mission). This can deal a lot of damage to an enemy, so it’s worth knowing about.
When you equip your ODM Gear, you should see two options appear on the left side of your screen with control prompts. The ‘Hover/Attack’ one is the one you need to attack an enemy.
Use the indicated control command and then aim at your enemy. Once you are satisfied with your target, release the controller/command to attack the target.
On Xbox the command to attack is ‘LT’.
Limited usability
However, the ODM Gear has limited usability. When you pick up a piece of equipment, look at your weapon inventory in the lower right corner of the screen. You should see a bar next to the small ODM Gear image.
This bar will slowly decrease each time you use ODM Gear. Once it runs out, the equipment will break and disappear from your inventory. Then you will need to find another set.
ODM Gear Cooling
Additionally, the ODM Gear will need to cool between uses. Once you’ve used it and exhausted its stamina, the equipment will return to your inventory and appear grayed out for a while. A small symbol will appear on the image in the lower right corner of the screen to show that it is cooling. Once the symbol is filled, you will be able to use the gear again.
All the challenges that need ODM Gear in Fortnite
There are quite a few challenges in Fortnite that you need ODM Gear for. Below we list the challenges and the rewards for completing them.
For the first challenge we listed, we found it very easy to complete it in the forest near Anvil Square. There are a lot of trees close together and it makes it easy to swing between them in succession.
