How to Auto Battle in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Auto Battle is a Pokémon Scarlet and Violet mechanic that lets you explore while your Pokémon do all the work.

The ‘Let’s Go’ feature that allows you to Auto Battle and walk with your Pokémon is also required to evolve certain Pokémon into Scarlet and Violet, including Pawmi’s evolution, Pawmo.

Below, we explain how to auto-battle in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet so you can complete your Paldean Pokédex, defeat Team Star bases, and waste less time exploring.

How to Automatically Battle in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Once you reach the first Pokémon Center next to Los Platos and meet Nemona as part of the first day of school quest, she will teach you about the ‘Let’s Go’ feature.

‘Let’s Go’ lets you press ‘R’ to send your Pokémon into Auto Battle in scarlet and purple. This will always send the first member of your party out, so make sure you’ve changed the Pokémon you want to Auto Battle with to the top of your party.

These Auto Battles use type and strength to determine the outcome of a fight. So if you approach an area with level 50 enemies and send your level 10 Quaxly into Auto Battle, it will lose HP almost as soon as its fabulous toupee leaves the Poké Ball, even if it has a type advantage.

If you are automatically battling in Scarlet and Violet to level up a specific Pokémon, we recommend doing so in an area where your Pokémon is the same level or higher than the wild Pokémon. Having a type advantage is also great for winning auto battles faster, as long as you’re not low level.

Poor Fletching.

You’ll also need to do an Auto Battle during the Star Barrage challenge at each Team Star base. In fact, you’ll need to do an Auto Battle with the first three Pokémon in your party at each base.

Our The Teal Mask walkthrough will help you complete the first part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, but make sure you know how to start it first. When visiting Kitakami it is a good idea to know how to get Sinistea, Dipplin and The Loyal Three. Our Pokémon Scarlet and Violet walkthrough can take you through the main campaign, including The First Day of School, Victory Road, Starfall Street, Path of Legends, and, when you’re ready, The Way Home and the final boss. Elsewhere, we can help with the normal gym test secret item menu, version differences, the best scarlet and violet starter, XP farming, shiny Pokémon, and learning to fly, swim, climb, and run. When it comes to individual Pokémon, we can help with Gimmighoul, Ditto, Bellibolt, Pawmot, Scovillain, Frigibax, Brambleghast, Annihilape, Farigiraf, Dudunsparce, Lycanrock, Armarouge, and Ceruledge.

How to Evolve Pokémon Using Auto Battle in Scarlet and Violet

Although the tutorials only mention Auto Battling and picking up items as part of their “Let Go” description, you can also use the mechanic to walk with your friends.

Walking with your Pokémon not only looks adorable, but it’s necessary for some of them to evolve, like Pawmi’s evolution, Pawmo.

To walk with your Pokémon and evolve them using Auto Battle in Scarlet and Violet, press ‘R’ to send out the first party member of your team, then walk very slowly past them. Try to do this in an area away from large groups of enemies, sticking to the main paths.

Walking with Pawmi with Auto Battle.

We haven’t been able to see anywhere that records the number of steps taken by you or your Pokémon, so if you need to walk a certain number of steps to evolve a Pokémon, you’ll have to count them yourself. We suggest walking more than necessary, just to be safe.

Once you have reached the required number of steps walking with that Pokémon, it will evolve the next time it levels up. You can do this by fighting him or giving him a rare candy.
