What is the dodo in GTA 3?
The dodo is a small plane that first appeared in GTA as the series’ first aerial vehicle and is famous for being nearly impossible to fly.
Since then, it has become quite a challenge to try to fly as long as possible, with little to no reward for doing so, although it can allow you to access some inaccessible parts of the map, such as ‘Ghost City’:
While the sequels bring improved forms of this plane, it is certainly interesting to obtain it in GTA 3 to know where the history of flight in the series came from.
The dodo may be fun for a while, but eventually it proves too difficult to pilot, making it inconsistent as a means of transportation.
GTA 3 Dodo Location: Where to Find the Dodo in GTA 3
The dodo can be found once you have opened the closed bridges and can fully explore the map. Specifically, you can find it:
- In the green hangar north of Francis International Airport in Shoreside Vale, it will only appear after the ‘Grand Theft Aero’ mission.
- Francis International Airport – Southwest Hangar
- Francis International Airport – Runway East Point
- Portland Docks Garage – Only after completing the “Import/Export” side quest, it can be unlocked at any time by following the list of cars to steal at Portland Harbor Docks. Remember to play the main story, as some of the objectives are locked behind progression.
Dodo controls and how to ‘fly’ the dodo in GTA 3
The Grand Theft Auto 3 version of the dodo has very short wings, which makes this plane extremely difficult to fly as it is not designed for long flights, and the slightest incorrect maneuver can cause you to fall to the ground.
However, it can be very useful for reaching high altitudes and granting you access to various areas, so it’s worth at least trying to learn how to drive it.
If you want to fly the dodo you must follow the following steps:
- Accelerate across flat, long-enough terrain while holding down the left analog stick or the dodo’s bottom button.
- When you see sparks under the dodo and hear screeching noises, release the bottom button on the left analog stick/dodo and the plane should rise into the air.
- Once you’re in the air, you need to be quick and stabilize it by pressing the Dodo Down/Down D-pad to keep it stable for as long as possible.
- The dodo will still perform a gliding maneuver from time to time, alternately ascending and descending, so be careful and if you want to steer this plane remember to simply touch the direction buttons as gently as you can. Otherwise it will fall and crash.
As mentioned, the dodo in GTA 3 is ultimately a novelty and a fun challenge that you should try to pilot for as long as you can. Good luck with your ‘flights’!
