Starly is the Pokémon chosen for July Community Day, a recurring Pokémon Go event that increases the spawn rate of a specific Pokémon.
This Flying and Normal-type Pokémon is a common Pokémon in Pokémon Go, so it may not be as attractive as last month’s focus on Deino, but there are a number of bonuses and a cool exclusive move for its final evolution, which It will be worth your time.
You can also take advantage of this Community Day to find a Starly with 100% perfect IV stats and, after completing its evolution line, turn it into a powerful Pokémon by teaching it Staraptor’s best moveset. You might even catch a shiny Starly!

Starly’s 100% perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go
July Community Day is the perfect opportunity to find a Starly with perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go.
A Staraptor, the final evolution of Starly, with 100% perfect IV sets is useful for five-star raids or the Master League. Since Starly will appear more frequently in the wild this Community Day, be sure to collect enough candy to properly power up your Staraptor and unlock its second charged move.
For Starly, the CP values that correspond to perfect stats on 15/15/15 are as follows:
- Level 30 (Max Wild CP) – 616 CP
- Level 35 (maximum CP boosted by weather) – 667 CP
Starly’s wild CP value aligns with your current trainer until you reach level 30, so since the majority of the player base is above this level, we kept these values for the sake of simplicity. However, if you are currently below level 30, these values will be different.
Starly Evolution Chart: What is Starly evolving into?
Starly has two evolutions, Staravia and Staraptor, and in Pokémon Go, you need a total of 125 Starly Candies to complete this evolution line; 25 are required to evolve Starly into Staravia, and for the final evolution into Staraptor, you’ll need 100 candies.

The July Community Day event takes place between 11am and 2pm (local time), so you’ll have three hours to collect as many Starly candies as possible.
If you want to continue catching Starly after the event ends, try defeating a Staravia in four-star raids in person together with other players. These raids will be available between 2 pm and 7 pm (local time) and if you win, Starly will appear in the gym where you defeated Staravia for 30 minutes.
The following methods will help you increase your candy production:
- Using Pinap Berries will double the amount of candy you get from catching them.
- This Community Day has a double candy catch bonus, which will also increase the amount of candy you receive when using Pinap Berries.
- Normal or Mega Evolving Flying types, such as Gyrados, Charizard, Aerodactyl, Lopunny, or Pidgeot, will increase the amount of candy you will receive from catching Starly.
Always remember to check Starly’s IV stats or look for 3* or 4* to see which ones are worth spending sweets on. Staraptor’s exclusive fast attack, Gust, is available between 11am and 2pm (local time), but, if you miss it, you can use an Elite TM to receive this move at a later time.
However, what is Staraptor’s best moveset?

We recommend a moveset of Gust and Brave Bird for Staraptor, with Close Combat if you have spare candies and Stardust to unlock its second attack.
Staraptor.
Gust is the exclusive move for Community Day and significantly increases DPS (damage per second) over other moves to make it a formidable flying attacker.
Flying as a type is not very dominant in the meta, but for when you need it, such as against insect types, of which two nearby Ultra Beasts will be extremely vulnerable, by combining Gust with Brave Bird you have a very profitable option in Staraptor.
From there, if you can afford it, having Close Combat as a second move is useful, as it gives you a fighting move to counter.

What are the shiny Starly, Staravia and Staraptor like?
The opportunity to capture a Shiny form for the featured Pokémon is one of the biggest draws of any Community Day event. This is due to the increased shine rate for the event’s featured Pokémon, combined with how capturing Pokémon of the same type naturally increases said rate and makes it easier to find shines.
To find a shiny Pokémon, you must start a catch match with a Pokémon in the wild or win the catch match by completing an activity such as a raid. From there, it’s easy to see if you’ve encountered a shiny Pokémon due to its alternate color, the sparkles that glow when the encounter begins, and the shiny icon next to the Pokémon’s name.

As you can see, all three take on a more brown appearance, while Staraptor’s hair turns blue.
If you want to evolve into the shiny Starly, we recommend waiting until after the event, where you will have up to five hours (until 7 pm local time) to evolve and obtain the exclusive move. This way, you’ll have enough time to hopefully catch a couple of shiny Starlys and collect enough candies to evolve them, without having to worry about sorting out your collection. Remember, it’s a good idea to check your shiny Starly’s stats, because it might have perfect IVs, making it even better for battle!
Evolving a shiny Starly will add a shiny Staravia and, if you complete the evolution line, a shiny Staraptor to your collection. If you fully evolve a shiny Starly during the event hours, the resulting shiny Staraptor will know Gust, the exclusive flying-type fast attack for this Community Day.
