Fortnite Shadow form: How to become a Shadow and Shadow abilities explained

A Shadow is a special form you can take during this year’s Fortnitemarers in Fortnite.

You’ll only be able to play as a Shadow during the Fortnitemarers event, which ends on Tuesday, November 3, so be sure to use this time wisely, such as completing the “Become a Shadow” challenge.

Once you’re a Shadow, it’s a good idea to know what your Shadow abilities are so you can take revenge on the living.

How to become a Shadow in Fortnite

Becoming a Shadow during this year’s Fortnitemares in Fortnite is pretty simple: all you have to do is have a single point of health left. (You basically die.)

This can be at the hands of an enemy player, a Shadow, or your own hands.

Whichever way your disappearance happens to you, when it happens you will find yourself transforming into a Shadow and returning to the game. After this transformation, you will be able to play as a Shadow until the game ends or until another player kills you.

If you plan to complete the Fortnitemares ‘Become a Shadow’ challenge, we suggest playing three games normally or, if you want to complete the challenge quickly, jumping from a tall building or mountain. You will die upon impact with the ground and will adopt your Shadow form.

It should be noted that, as of this writing, being killed by a Shadow does not appear to count towards completing this challenge.

Shadow abilities explained in Fortnite

Once you’ve become a Shadow, there are a number of special abilities you can take advantage of. All of these abilities are very useful for getting the most out of your ghostly form, so it’s worth experimenting with them.

Two of these abilities are tied to movement: Dash allows you to cross obstacles and Shadow Jump will allow you to jump higher. It’s almost important to note that if you stand still as a shadow, everything but your two black eyes will become invisible.

Almost invisible.

There’s also the Shadow attack, Slash, which allows you to attack the living with your ghostly claws.

The best ability, however, is Shout, which, when used, will highlight the locations of living players nearby, allowing you to sneak up on them and attack them slowly. This skill has a 30 second cooldown and is an essential skill for anyone seeking revenge.

Finally, it is important to know that as Shadow you have 100 life points and no shield. However, you can recover your hit points by consuming ammo, weapons, materials, and other items that you would normally fill your inventory with.

It is impossible for Shadows to take fall damage or be damaged by other Shadows, but both the storm and other players can damage them.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 is here! To help you get started with this heist-themed season, we have guides on how to alert a security camera, protect data from Forecast Towers, and destroy weakened security walls or doors. There’s also a new Victory Umbrella! In the meantime, learn what the best weapons are, the current boosts, how to get XP quickly, how to use the best PC builds, and earn a crown of victory.

Can a Shadow win a battle royale in Fortnite?

Yes, it is possible to win a battle royale in Fortnite as Sombra.

Since Shadows are incapable of killing each other, there is a chance that you will end up in a match where the remaining players have become Shadows, meaning eliminations are impossible.

If this happens, then you simply need to stay out of the storm until the match ends and you will receive a battle royale. You’ll even receive the Umbrella of Victory for Season 4 if you haven’t already!

We recommend avoiding non-Shadow players if you plan to use this technique, lest you be eliminated by a talented ghost hunter. Fortunately, the Shout ability will allow you to keep track of non-Shadow players who may still be in the game.

Good luck chasing Fortnite this Halloween!
