Fortnite - Mothership abduction: How to get abducted in Fortnite explained

After weeks of unpredictable abductions, it’s finally possible to be transported to a spaceship in Fortnite. Is that how it works.

Mothership abductions in Fortnite arrive as part of the v17.10 update.

After weeks of unpredictable abductions in the lead-up to season 7, being transported to an Abductor spaceship is a feature of the new season.

Doing so will allow you to grab loot as part of a mothership minigame where you collect Vault Orbs, and the more you grab, the better the loot.

Kidnapper Locations in Fortnite

The mothership’s abduction function has been made possible by a new point of interest: the kidnappers. These are large ships that hover over named location points on the map, and three appear per game.

Although they are visible from afar, either on the ground or while flying around the map on the Battle Bus, they are also displayed on the map with a UFO icon. Note: These are not to be confused with “normal” UFO locations, which appear in named locations that have glowing purple text.

The kidnappers’ locations can be shown here in Pleasant Park, Lazy Lake, and Misty Meadows.

The hijackers will hover over designated locations and occasionally send green beams of light to the ground.

If you stand on one of these and wait, you will soon be sucked into the air and taken to the mothership.

Sounds simple right? In our experience, the frequency with which this happens seems unreliable. Only in one of several matches did we see rays of light search the ground; Multiple players may need to be close to a kidnapper for this to activate (which would make some sense, since the minigame that follows has others playing alongside you).

Either way, if you can, start the game and head towards a location with multiple abductor ships. From there, you’ll hopefully be able to see any abductions taking place, allowing you to jump in and join the action.

Mothership minigame in Fortnite explained

When you’re on the mothership, an “experiment” will take place: a minigame where you and several other players will be in a low-gravity environment to collect orbs.

The Vault Orbs are the ones you should look for, indicated by streaks of orange light. Interact with the orb when it falls, then continue to another location, and so on.

There are also Time Orbs, which are scattered around the environment and add five seconds when they collide. Five seconds is less time than you think, so we recommend only grabbing them if they’re on their way to another Vault Orb.

Players will have a weapon that can destroy others, so you’ll occasionally be able to ping around the arena. Since there is no limited number of Vault Orbs, we recommend ignoring what others are doing and focusing on obtaining Vault Orbs. Try to move some of the other players away to avoid being attacked, but if there is another player in a location, be sure to destroy them with your weapon.

If you fall into the abyss, you will respawn above, losing some time. Otherwise, it’s all about getting a feel for low-gravity movement while searching for Vault Orbs.

Once you have all five Vault Orbs, you will be teleported to the Vault and can open several chests full of legendary gear. The more time you have left, the more chests you can open.

It’s here that you can also pick up a legendary ray gun, one of the most useful weapons to use at a distance right now.
