Blocking shots while holding the Guardian Shield is one of the limited-time weekly challenges you must complete in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1.
Below, we detail the locations of the Guardian Shield in Fortnite, along with how to block shots while holding the Guardian Shield.
There are five stages to this challenge and you will earn 16k XP for completing each stage for a total of 80k XP. This XP can help you earn Battle Stars for this season’s Battle Pass.

Fortnite Guardian Shield Locations
The best way to find Guardian Shields in Fortnite is to search for sworn chests. These are the long white and gold chests found in the orange areas of the map, usually near a castle or fort.
Although they can appear in chests, supply drops, and floor loot, the best chance of obtaining a Guardian Shield is in an Oathworn Chest.
There are dozens of sworn chests scattered throughout these orange land areas, but like normal chests, they don’t always appear, nor are Guardian Shields guaranteed to open a sworn chest.
We suggest going to an area with a lot of possible Oathound Chest spawns to increase your chances of getting a Guardian Shield.
The best places to find lots of Sworn Chests and Guardian Shields are:
- breakwater bay
- The Citadel
- Faulty divisions

How to Block Shots While Holding the Guardian Shield in Fortnite
To block shots while holding the Guardian Shield, make sure it is equipped and then press the same button you would use to fire a weapon. A large blue shield will appear in front of you, protecting you from some incoming shots.
The shield can also be thrown to the ground to act as stationary cover and can protect against melee weapons such as the Shockwave Hammer, but only if it lands right in front of the shield. Please note that these methods will not count towards the “block shots while holding Guardian Shield” challenge.
However, you cannot block forever, as the Guardian Shield’s power will deplete over time. The shield will start to turn pink when it’s almost depleted, and you can also see how much time you have left by checking the bar next to the shield in your inventory, in the bottom right corner of the screen.
