Houndour 100% perfect IV stats, shiny Houndour in Pokémon Go

This week’s Featured Hour is all about Dark Pokémon, and if that’s not one of the vaguest categories, we don’t know what is. Either way, this week’s event is the perfect time to catch a perfect Houndour in Pokémon Go.

Houndoom, the evolution of Houndour, is a poor choice in Pokémon Go, both as a raid attacker, but thanks to its ability to Mega Evolve, it is a reasonable choice for raids.

But most importantly, with the Stardust double catch bonus running alongside this Spotlight Hour, showing up and catching all the Pokémon is always a great way to get through this event.

Houndour IV Stats 100% Perfect in Pokémon Go

This week’s Featured Hour is a great opportunity to catch a Houndour with perfect IV stats.

Houndour.

“Perfect” means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there’s the max version, 100% IV, which is the 15/15/15 you’re looking for for your Pokédex 4*, raids, and Master League. However, because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect Pokemon IV is usually just the best version of itself in Master League.

Of course, you can’t see a Pokémon’s IV without catching it first, but with a little research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Houndour based on CP alone.

If you’re at level 30 (or higher), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Houndour:

  • Level 30 (Max Wild CP) – 1058 CP
  • Level 35 (maximum wild CP boosted by weather) – 1146 CP
  • The wild CP value aligns with your trainer level until you reach level 30, and since the majority of the player base is now above this level, we’ve kept these values for the sake of simplicity. However, these values will be different if you are currently below level 30.

    Is Houdoom good at PvP?

In short, no, which is a shame since the Dark/Fire pool is incredibly shallow (Incineroar is the other option).

    Houndoom.

If you want to take a hit on Houndoom in PvP, you’ll want to run Snarl, Crunch, and Flamethrower. Snarl charges up very quickly, Crunch has a 30% chance to wear down the opponent’s defense, and Flamethrower is there to cover. It’s spammy and flexible, and applies shield pressure. The problem, of course, is Houndoom’s stats. It’s just not designed for PvP.

This brings us to the confrontations. In Great League, Shadow Houndoom Registeel, Venusaur, Sableye, Alolan Ninetails, and Trevenant, though it’s worth noting that while the latter should be an easy win, it’s surprisingly close. Meanwhile, losses are coming from Medicham, Galarian Stunfisk, Altaria, Noctowl, and Umbreon.

Houndoom does a little better in the Ultra League, but the difference is minuscule. He defeated Venusaur, Alolan Ninetails, Trevenant, Cresselia, and Jellicent. Losses come from Walrein, Registeel (ay), Talonflame, Charizard, and Giratina.

As always, Master League is just a sham; you are capped at 2979 CP, making Houndoom unfit for the big leagues.

The Season of Adventure Abundance is here! Its first event is A Paldean Adventure, which sees the true launch of Gen 9 and the special research mission A Paldean Adventure. You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

Is there a shiny Houndour in Pokémon Go?

Yes, there is a shiny Houndour in Pokémon Go. Shiny Houndour and Houndoom were added in August 2018, along with Snubbull and Granbull.

However, since Spotlight Hours does not have an enhanced shine rate, the chances of finding a shine are the same as finding one in the wild. You simply have a better chance of finding one because of the number it generates.

What does the shiny Houndour look like?

As you can see below, the brilliant Houndour simply swaps out his blacks for navy blues and reds for yellows. It’s not the most ambitious shiny, but if you’re a fan of blue Pokémon, this is clearly for you!

Shiny Houndoom is very similar: the color changes are preserved in this evolution. Blacks turn blue and reds turn yellow.

Other tips for this hour of attention

Besides trying to catch a Shiny Houndour in Pokémon Go, there are a couple more good reasons to participate in this week’s Spotlight:

    • The best reason is of course the double catch Stardust bonus that runs throughout the hour. This gives you the opportunity to collect Stardust twice as fast as usual, and each Houndour captured awards 200 Stardust instead of the basic 100. If the weather in the game is sunny, this adds an additional 50 Stardust (double the usual 25), and this stacks with a Star Piece to give a 1.5x multiplier to all Stardust earned. This means that each weather-boosted Houndour captured while wearing a Star Piece will be worth 375 Stardust!
    • If you’re a newcomer, this Featured Hour is the perfect time to collect enough Houndour candy to fully evolve this Pokémon and enter its evolution, Houndoom, into the Pokédex.
    • Thanks to Houndour being a Dark/Fire type, catching a bunch during this Featured Hour will add progress to your respective catch bonus medals.

Spotlight Hour events only last one hour: from 6 pm to 7 pm (local time). Next month’s Spotlight Hour events have yet to be announced, but check back next week to find out who will take center stage on Tuesday.

Good luck finding a perfect Houndour!
