Fortnite’s The End was a surprise: it ushered in the Chapter 2 Season 8 finale two seasons before many of us expected it to.
As with the ending of Chapter 1, the ending of Chapter 2 came out strong (and some downtime) before a new map and more with the arrival of Chapter 3.

When is the estimated Fortnite Chapter 3 release date now that the live event is over?

Whats Next? Just like between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, we expect a period of downtime as developer Epic works to bring Chapter 3 online.
We expect the Chapter 3 release date (or specifically, the Chapter 3 Season 1 release date) to take place within the next 48 hours. Based on what happened last time, this should be around Monday morning or afternoon UK time.
However, since Epic has technically done this before, things may be faster. Or slower! We can’t be sure by any means, but our best guess would be to discount the rest of the weekend and pin our hopes on Monday at the earliest for Fortnite to be back online.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Fortnite The End event will take place on Saturday, December 4, and will launch at the following times:
- United Kingdom: 9:00 p.m. (GMT)
- Europe: 10:00 p.m. (CEST)
- US East Coast: 4 pm (ET)
- US West Coast: 1:00 pm (PT)
The Final playlist, which is where the live event will take place, will begin 30 minutes prior to the above times and based on the popularity of previous events, it is highly recommended that you log in at that time to secure your spot to watch. the end.
The End is a unique event, and those who participate will unlock a special loading screen and wrap.
You can also team up with 15 other players if you prefer to bring friends along for the trip.
This is also when Fortnite Chapter 2 Episode 8 will end. Before the event, you must spend your last Battle Stars for the Season 8 Battle Pass; If you don’t, these items will automatically be used towards previously available rewards, which could lead to you missing out on something you had your eye on. – as well as collecting colored bottles for the Toona Fish and the Cube Queen skin.
What can we expect from The End and Chapter 3 in Fortnite?
Developer Epic Games has confirmed the start time and date of The End event, as well as some general plot details, giving us an idea of what to expect from the event:
“With The Convergence complete, The Cube Queen prepares her end for the Island and nothing will be the same again. Take up your weapons and fight the ultimate destroyer of all reality. Join “The End”, a unique Event and Battle game for your legacy.”

Well, technically, although it is not confirmed, we imagine that the transition between Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 will be similar to that of the first two seasons, with a long period of inactivity while Epic prepares for the arrival of Chapter 3.
Last time this was around 36 hours, with nothing but a black hole for players to observe during that time, and we can imagine it will be the same here. If so, you can expect to start playing Chapter 3 sometime on Monday morning or early afternoon UK time.
From there, based on what happened with Chapter 2, our guesses and some leaks of upcoming features in development for what Chapter 3 will bring include:
- A new Fortnite map (it is unknown if it will include elements from previous maps, such as in Chapter 2)
- New features (leaked hints, not confirmations, include weapon attachments and a sliding mechanic)
- Engine update (including a transition to Unreal Engine 5)
As mentioned, some of them are based on leaks, others are our guesses. For one, Chapter 2 introduced some important new mechanics not seen in Chapter 1 (fishing and swimming among them) and a new Chapter is the perfect opportunity to make such advancements. Leaks suggest weapon attachments and slides in particular, although who knows if that will happen.
Meanwhile, an update to Unreal Engine 5 is definitely in the works at some point: Epic confirms it’s “committed to battle-testing the engine internally, as we prepare to ship Fortnite in UE5 across all platforms in the future.” .

Although the engine won’t be available for full shipment to developers until early 2022, Fortnite Chapter 3 could be the perfect opportunity to put it through its paces. It should especially shine on next-gen consoles, but it’s designed to work on all systems, including low-end devices as well.
As for the new map, it seems like a given, even if there are no clues about what to expect. But we imagine it will offer some throwbacks to previous locations and stories and, hopefully, its own identity as well.
There may be more teasers in the week leading up to The End event. Either way, make sure you do everything you want before Chapter 2, Season 8 is gone forever!
