The Stuck in a Rut quest in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is one of the first quests you can do when you arrive in the Junon region. We highly recommend completing this quest as soon as possible, as it rewards you with a useful travel system, as well as the usual SP and EXP rewards.
This Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth quest is divided into several parts, all of which will have you exploring the environment in Junon and honing your Chocobo skills while searching for very specific materials.

How to start the mission Stuck in a rut in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
You can start the Stuck in a Rut quest in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth as soon as you reach Junon. After leaving Mythril Mines, head to the location marked on the map below to discover a Chocobo Ranch. Here, locate and talk to the owner of the ranch, Gabe. He is usually next to his cabin.

After talking to Gabe, you will automatically unlock and begin the mission Stuck in a Rut.

How to argue with Bella in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Your first task in Stuck in a Rut will be to get a Chocobo. To find Belle, head to the location marked on the map below that Gabe told you about. When you get here, you’ll find that Bella is among several Scary Chocobos.

Once you have Belle, you can head straight to Wainwright’s Hut.
How to get to Wainwright’s cabin in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
You can find the Wainwright’s Hut location in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth marked on the map below. You will need to use Bella’s special ability to reach it.

Head to the area marked on the map and at ground level you should find a large flat wall with arrows pointing up. Take your Chocobo over here and they’ll instantly grab it to start walking upwards. Keep walking until you reach the top.

Follow these easy steps to get to Wainwright’s Hut:
- Climb the first climbable wall with your Chocobo.
- At the top, you’ll see another wall in front of you. Go up for this too.
- Then, at the top of it, climb the climbable wall to your right.
- At the top of this wall, continue up the next one directly in front of you.
- Finally, when you reach the top of the wall, follow the path as it turns to the right and you will reach Wainwright’s Hut.
How to find Wainwright Materials in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
After speaking with the somewhat frustrating Wainwright, you’ll be tasked with finding three pieces of Driftwood for him. Now, we discovered that you can complete this quest with only one or two pieces of Driftwood, but we recommend completing all three to complete this quest 100 percent.
Wainwright will give you a map vaguely indicating where each material can be found, but we did a little digging (literally) with a Chocobo and found them.
Here are all the Wainwright Materials locations in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth:

Fortunately, all of them can be found in the area between Wainwright’s Hut, the entrance to Under Junon, and Gabe’s Chocobo Ranch.
When you reach one of the locations marked above, make sure you are riding your Chocobo. Watch for a red question mark to appear above his head – this is the sign that he is in the right place.

When it appears overhead, have your Chocobo sniff the air around it and look around until it points in the exact direction of the piece of Driftwood. All you need to do then is head in the direction the Chocobo is pointing and use them to dig the ground when they finally find it, just like you would when searching for other things with a Chocobo.
Once you’ve found all three pieces, return to Wainwright’s Hut to hand them over. He will then craft the parts you need and you can take them to Gabe to finish this mission!
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Stuck in a Rut quest rewards explained
After taking the materials to Gabe at Chocobo Ranch, you will complete the Stuck in a Rut quest and will be rewarded with the following:
- SP – The whole game.
- Gil.
- Boosted relationship with Aerith.
- Queen’s Guard Bracelet.
- EXP – Cloud.
- EXP. partying.
- Unlocking the chocobo car.
Unlocking the Chocobo Carriage will allow you to use Gabe’s Chocobo Carriage to travel between Grasslands and Junon for a fee. It will cost you 300 Gil per trip, but it will save you time as you won’t need to return through the Mythril Mines to reach the previous region.
