Final Fantasy 15 Episode Prompto is the second of four major additional content for Square’s open-world RPG, focusing on the fan-favorite photographer and giving us the opportunity to learn more about his backstory.
Unlike the last Gladiolus DLC episode, there are major spoilers in this DLC chapter, so we recommend completing the main story before delving in.
When the time comes, expect a new shooter-inspired combat system with some welcome Final Fantasy 15 touches, some action-packed cutscenes, and a small taste of a new open-world area.

To access the DLC, make sure it’s downloaded with the latest patch (select PlayStation Store from the game’s main menu, then search for it from there) and select Downloadable Content from the main menu once downloaded. It is the same patch as the addition of the Type-D all-terrain vehicle.
As such, it is separate from the main story and can be accessed at any time. While it features a series of side quests as the game opens up in its second half, you can’t reload a completed save game, but must return to a previous one just before the final boss.

Once you’ve completed the episode, which will take around 90 minutes if you ignore the side quests, you’ll unlock the Lionheart weapon (a 200+ strength pistol) and the Tundra outfit for Prompto (increases max HP, vitality, and reduces ice). damage) to carry over to the main game, as well as the Trigger Happy Bullet Art for future replays of Episode Prompto.
No previous steps required – just save out loud and it’s waiting in your inventory.
You’ll also have access to two additional bonus modes: Time Trial and Intensive Training, to test your combat and snowmobiling skills. Both have Trophies/Achievements to unlock and give you something else to do once the short main adventure is over.

Much like Episode Gladiolus, the switch to a new party member allows the DLC to experiment with a new style of combat, this time based on third-person shooters.
Just like in the main game, you have a weapon wheel that you can use to choose between different weapons. The main one we should focus on is the right D-Pad; This will be an SMG, a sniper rifle, or a bazooka, depending on what you last picked up, and they are all fired by aiming with L1/Left Bumper and firing with R1/Right Bumper.
If you’re familiar with shooters, learning how combat works will be easy, as you’ll be able to avoid attacks in a similar way by holding Square/X on Xbox behind cover and tapping it to roll when outdoors, and it’s a tactic that comes in handy here. .
Once you’ve mastered this, most of the game’s combat will be pretty easy. That said, there are a few other things worth noting to help you along the way:
- Once you’ve stunned an enemy, rendering them stationary and glowing blue, you can perform one or two finishers: a ranged Crackshot with Triangle/Y and a close-up Overkill with X on PlayStation or A on Xbox. While the latter is useful if you need to refill ammo, the latter is by far the preferred option, allowing you to chain attacks together after using the Sniper, Bazooka, or Dragoon Dive, essentially the three most powerful attacks in the DLC. Use Crackshot and use it frequently.
- For standalone enemies, use the sniper whenever possible, allowing you to get a one-hit kill or follow up with Crackshot to dispatch them. For groups, use the Bazooka, or better yet, the Flare (below on the weapon wheel) followed by a series of Crackshots.
- Once you complete Life in Captivity, you’ll be free to explore on a snowmobile, allowing you to take on a few side quests before completing the story. However, this is completely optional: like in Episode Gladiolus, there is no individual character leveling and it is simply used to obtain money to upgrade the snowmobile, which in itself is completely optional and will not carry over to future games. nor to the main game.
However, some challenging enemy encounters can be found, including the Kaiser Behemoth, which results in an optional trophy or achievement, as well as three goggle and mask costumes to find.
