Far Cry New Dawn photo locations: How to complete the A Thousand Words mission

Far Cry New Dawn’s photo location mission, A Thousand Words, isn’t exactly complicated, but it does require a bit of time and effort, not to mention a lot of exploration.

Set 17 years after the events of its predecessor, Far Cry 5, Far Cry New Dawn takes an apocalyptic turn for the worst that decimates the landscape we knew so well. Sob.

If that makes you feel a little nostalgic, it turns out you’re not alone; Far Cry 5 alum Tracey Lader has trekked across Hope County in an attempt to recreate the photos she had taken before the collapse, and your job is to discover where the snapshots of these special places were taken.

While you can purchase a map of photo locations through the Cartography office, we thought you might prefer to put your hard-earned ethanol to better use and have put together a list of Far Cry New Dawn photo locations for you.

If you’re looking for more things to collect, our Far Cry New Dawn music player locations page can help.

How to start the ‘Thousand Words’ photo mission in Far Cry New Dawn

To begin, you will need to examine the photo box in your base, Prosperity. Go up the stairs of the main building, cross the balcony and you will see a message suggesting that you should investigate.

From there, nine photographs from Hope County’s heyday will be added to your inventory and the quest A Thousand Words will begin.

Nor is it simply useless work; There’s a handy perk point for every photo you take and five bonus points when you complete the task. Oh, and you’ll also unlock the “Before” trophy/achievement upon completing the mission.

Please note: When we say heading “eastward,” we mean heading to the right, as if you were looking at the map. And while we’ve done our best to keep this spoiler-free, even the locations and notes themselves may contain unwanted spoilers, so proceed with caution if you’re trying to stay spoiler-free!

Pantry Photo Location

Let’s start with an easy one, eh? Immediately east of The Pantry Outpost, just 80 yards or so, you will find Tracy’s table. Read the letter, take out your camera and you should take this photo immediately without having to wait in line to…

John Seed’s House Photo Location

A little further west of Prosperity are the remains of John Seed’s house, and what a pleasure it is to see it in ruins too. Again, you should be able to fire this shot without too many complications; read the note, raise the camera and say “cheese” to our dear brother John…

Dam photo location

As the story campaign takes you toward the northern edge of Hope County, here you’ll find another hidden photo location right on the water’s edge. Just before the complex at the top, turn left and jump to Tracey’s table, then turn right to hold your photo up.

This might take a little finesse (I found that moving a little towards the dam helped), but you’ll soon hit that sweet spot.

Photo location of Joseph Seed’s house

As the map begins to narrow as you head north, you’ll find this location on the western side of the island that Joseph Seed used to call home. Once again, Tracey’s table is right at the water’s edge, and Seed’s ruined church is right in front of you. It’s okay, Joe is no longer there to scare you away. Get away.

Mastodon Geothermal Park Photo Location

East of Chateau Boshaw is what remains of the Mastodon geothermal park from Far Cry 5. Spawn and you’ll find Tracey’s table on the gentle hill behind you. I am not going to lie; This took me forever to line up, and without the Mammoths to help with perspective it’s a little tricky, but turn left a little and you should get the snapshot you’re looking for.

Bridge of Broken Tears photo location

From Broken Tears, turn right/east from the damaged bridge and head towards the water’s edge (spotting a pattern here?). You’ll find Tracey’s table behind the rock you see sticking out, near the grapple point.

Again, it wasn’t easy to align, but I found that standing directly above the camera on the mat and raising the image so it was a little higher than the bridge worked for me.

Rye and Daughter Aviation Photography Location

It’s a big place, Rye and Daughter Aviation, but if you head south or towards the road, you look back and, sadly, you should see the remains of Nick’s house, identifiable as part of the building jutting out on stilts. Tracey’s table is further south from the front of the building and recreating this photo should be quick, if not painless (poor Nick).

Fall’s End Photo Location

Head west from the Chop Shop outpost, the sad remains of what used to be Fall’s End, and make your way toward a dangerously tilted water tower that, for inexplicable reasons, has the wreckage of an airplane strapped on top of it.

It’s not easy to find Tracey’s table here as there are a lot of bushes and plants in the way, but if you move around the tower until the rotating propeller points west and move backwards, you should eventually run into it. From there, it’s just a matter of raising the camera and taking the photo.

Refinery photo location

Let’s finish with an easy one, eh? Head north out of the Refinery and you’ll see Tracey’s table this time not near the water, but in the middle of a clearing, looking directly at the ruins of the outpost. Work done!
