How to prepare for Sir Gideon Ofnir
Sir Gideon Ofnir can be a great magic user, if you give him enough room to breathe.
Firstly, we recommend using Mimic Tear Ash Summon for this boss encounter, as it can relentlessly pressure the boss and give you very little room to operate. Yes, Mimic Tear has been nerfed since the release of Elden Ring, but it’s still a viable option for dealing damage and getting Gideon’s attention.
We also recommend using a special Blood or Frost attack, infusing your weapon with any of the abilities of a War Ash. Like Mimic Tear, Hoarfrost Stomp Ash of the War has seen a nerf, extending the cast time and slightly reducing the ability’s damage, but it’s still good for dealing solid damage to Ofnir while he’s distracted by Mimic Tear.
Tips from Sir Gideon Ofnir: How to beat Sir Gideon Ofnir
As we mentioned earlier, Sir Gideon Ofnir deals in sorceries and enchantments. He can pepper you with spells throughout the battle, one of the most common of which might be his array of spectral swords, which he summons upon himself and which will swoop towards you if you approach.
This is where the Bleed or Frost based ability comes in handy, as you can attack Gideon without getting too close.
Sir Gideon Ofnir will also send you spinning disks of Holy damage or a single, large Glintstone projectile. Both can be countered by dodging, but with the spinning discs in particular, you’ll want to make sure you don’t dodge too early, as he’ll leave you open to the projectiles following you.
You know that incredibly powerful lightning spell you’ve seen players kill bosses with in one hit?
Gideon has that. He can do this if you get too far away from him, and when you see him plant both feet and prepare for the attack, try to run as fast as you can around him to deal a lot of damage while he casts the spell.
Sir Gideon Ofnir actually has two special attacks, both of which depend on who you defeated before him. If you defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood and tell Gideon of your feat before fighting him, he will unleash an attack of bloody flames in waves, which can deal bleed damage to you.
This can be countered by running out of reach or staggering Gideon dealing significant damage before he casts the spell.
Alternatively, if you defeat Malenia, Blade of Miquella and tell Gideon before the fight, she will turn into a lotus and crash to the ground, creating a massive area attack that stacks Scarlet Rot.
To counter this, you can run out of range again or roll under Sir Gideon Ofnir, because he cannot change the direction of the attack once it has passed a certain point in the casting phase.
