Doom secrets, collectibles guide: Where to find all hidden secrets, plus Doom Switch differences explained

2016 offered a very pleasant surprise: after a disappointing multiplayer beta, Doom’s campaign is much better than we originally feared. It’s just, frankly, it’s been a long time since we’ve had an old-school first-person shooter campaign with this much meat on its bones.

It may not be a great game, but it has a lot to offer, and that includes a lot of Doom secrets, collectibles, Easter eggs, and well-hidden upgrades.

Here we present our pages to help you locate all classic Doom levels, Doomguy collectible models, Automap Station, Field Drone, Elite Guard, Rune Trial, Argent Cell and more.

Additionally, with the release of the new Switch version, the Doom Switch differences you can expect are reduced. Spoilers: It’s very similar to the PC and console versions, so all of our guides below will do just fine.

Our Doom secrets, collectibles guides.

So what are you looking for? Doomguy collectibles are just cute little extras that will grant you an achievement/trophy called “Every Corner”. The classic Doom levels are recreations of some of the fantastic level designs from previous Doom games that are a pure hit of nostalgia. But there is more to many of these hidden secrets than pure completionism or curiosity; There are also benefits to the game.

Meanwhile, Rune Trials unlock permanent perks for your character. Field Drones unlock powerful weapon modifications. Argent Cells upgrade your health, armor, or ammo capacity. Auto Map Stations unlock the full map for each level and can help you search for all other upgrades and collectibles.

Elite Guard corpses reward you with Praetor Points that upgrade your armor. These are worth seeking out if you want to make the most of your character’s capabilities.

Doom Switch Differences

In late 2017, Doom expanded from PS4, Xbox One, and PC to reach portable devices via Nintendo Switch. It’s not exactly the same game, but it’s surprisingly similar, with most of the same features and settings, and some visual compromises to ensure it runs well on a handheld.

What’s different with Switch on Doom?

  • The frame rate was reduced by half, from 60 frames per second to 30 frames per second.
  • Maximum resolution at 720p
  • Some visual compromises to run at target frame rate and resolution
  • Without SnapMap level editor
  • Multiplayer is not available on the physical cartridge; must be downloaded separately

Otherwise, Doom on Switch features the game’s entire campaign, arcade mode, and multiplayer, including all modes and post-release DLC in other versions.
