Apex Legends Heirloom Shards: Drop rate and how to find Heirloom Shards explained

Dive into the elusive currency in Apex Legends to unlock Heirloom rewards in the store.

Apex Legends’ Heirloom Shards are the rarest type of currency available and are used to redeem unique cosmetic items for a select number of legends.

These ultra-rare cosmetics are available as an unlockable set of three during Collection Events or as bundles to purchase from the Heirloom Shop. The problem is that outside of these specific cases, Heirloom Relic Shards are required to obtain these items, which is a pretty elusive currency.

If you want your legend to feature these rare drops every match, this guide will cover how to get Heirloom Shards and explain how Heirloom Shards work and what exactly you get in these sets.

Apex Legends Legacy Items: What They Are and How They Work

You can find many cosmetic items available in Apex Legends, ranging from legend skins and weapons to charms and poses. These have no effect on gameplay, but can inject personality into your favorite characters or online matches with emotes and banners. As of now, Heirloom items are the rarest of all and will likely remain as they are for the foreseeable future.

There is a good reason why these items are so attractive. While you can purchase specific cosmetics from the store or simply try your hand at Apex Packs, the only way to modify the appearance of melee weapons is through Heirloom sets. Additionally, not all legends have gotten theirs yet, which opens the door to more events in the future to watch.

Regardless of when we see the full collection, the requirements remain the same, but so do their custom looks that perfectly match the corresponding legend: from Pathfinder’s boxing gloves with animated LED displays to Mirage’s statue of himself.

The way you obtain Heirloom gear has changed over time: first it was through events, and more recently they are available by spending a specific currency, Heirloom Shards.

Apex Legends Heirloom Shards: How they work and how to find them

Heirloom Shards came as an alternative to the old system. Now, instead of finding a set of Heirloom Relics for a random legend in Apex Packs, there is a chance that you can receive 150 Heirloom Relic Fragments. The number of Heirloom Shards per Apex Pack does not vary, as they are distributed in three slots of 50 shards each.

So close yet so far.

As of now, there is only one way to obtain Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends, which is through Apex Packs (the game’s loot boxes).

There are two ways to get Apex Packs. You can continue to gain as much experience as possible during matches (keeping an eye on daily and weekly challenges helps speed this up!) to unlock an Apex Pack each time you level up (which, as we mentioned above, can vary depending on your level). level). level), or choose to purchase Apex Coins with real money, which can then be used to purchase Apex Packs in the store.

That said, you can also wait for the next collection event for a chance to get legacy items by playing. There have been 9 collection events as of press time, each featuring a new set of relics. If you obtain all 24 limited event cosmetics during the event, you will be rewarded with an heirloom set. But again, it can be quite expensive to get there.

Apex Legends Heirloom Shard Chance and Drop Rate Explained

Before you get your hopes up, the drop rate for Heirloom Shards in Apex Packs is incredibly low: at the time of publication, you have a 1 in 500 chance of stumbling upon them.

Sorry, champion. Better luck next time.

It’s surely a slim possibility from the start, although developer Respawn implemented a protection against bad luck. This means that if you open 499 Apex Packs without seeing this currency yet, the next one is guaranteed to have Relic Shards inside.

As we mentioned above, Apex Packs can be obtained by leveling up, although this occurs less frequently as time goes on; At levels 2 to 20, you earn one pack per level, but from 22 to 300, one pack every two levels, and from there to 500, one for every five levels.

How legacy items previously worked in Apex Legends

Until early 2020, Heirloom items could be obtained directly from Apex Packs, based on the same one in 500 chance. However, collection events were intertwined with drop chances in not so favorable ways, unless you were EA. According to our August 2019 report, due to the way the odds worked, getting the full set of Bloodhound relics cost between £135.97 and £151.81.

The Apex Pack store starting May 2021.

To this day, the community continues to express its opinion on the price of cosmetics in general. While traditional items are certainly the most expensive to obtain, premium skins can cost around 1,800 Apex Coins ($18/£13). During a Reddit AMA in May 2021, Respawn attributed this to “content creation costs”, explaining that the small size of the team and efforts to continue supporting the game for a long time have led to these decisions, given the amount of work that creation entails. Skins.

Since the implementation of Heirloom Shards, you can only obtain these cosmetic packs by spending Heirloom Shards in the Heirloom Store or by obtaining all limited cosmetics during certain events.
