Destiny’s Necrochasm is one of the exotic weapons returning as part of the final Age of Triumph game update.
While others come from drops as part of the weekly featured raid playlist, this Dark Below rifle is part of The Crux of Darkness questline, which is a random drop and requires a few steps before it is yours.
How to get the Year 3 Necrochasm in Destiny
To get the Year 3 version of Necrochasm, each step is briefly detailed here:
- Get the Husk of the Pit drop from Hive or Nightfall enemies
- Farm Thrall, Wizards of Knights to get the Eidolon Ally rifle
- Visit the Speaker and Eris in the Tower
- Complete version 390 of Crota’s End, defeat Omnigul in The Will of Crota Strike.
- Use the ‘Essence of the Oversoul’ item that Eris gives you in Eidolon Alley to obtain the Necrochasm.

The Crux of Darkness, Thrall Farm Wizards of Knights
To unlock the Crux of Darkness quest for the Necrochasm, you must obtain a Shell from the Well.
How to get Husk of the Pit and start The Crux of Darkness
This is a random drop that looks like a white engram from Hive enemies, and it is recommended that you play story missions and Hive Heists.
Ogres seem to have a higher chance of dropping the item, and it can also drop upon completing Nightfall, so it’s not a completely unpredictable process.
Farm Thrall, Wizards or Knights
The Well Shell is actually a weapon with a single advantage. Inspecting it will explain which Hive enemies you will need to kill to power it up. These will be Thrall, Wizards or Knights.
Reddit user notuobmit has compiled some useful places to farm for each of these enemies if you’re having trouble finding them easily.
It is said that you can ditch the Pit Shell and get another one if you want to take on a different type of enemy from there, but do so at your own risk.
Once you’ve killed enough enemies, you’ll be notified to upgrade the Husk of the Pit into the legendary Eidolon Ally auto rifle.
Visit the Speaker and Eris in the Tower
With Eidolon Alley in hand, it’s time to go to the Speaker, who will give you 25 Motes of Light. You’ll also need to visit Eris, who gives you the Ally of Darkness step to further power up the rifle.
How to Get Supreme Soul Essence
The next steps are to complete version 390 of Crota’s End (specifically The Abyss section at the beginning and defeat Crota at the end, which are two separate steps) and then defeat Omnigul as part of ‘The Will of Crota’ Strike.
Any version of ‘The Will of Crota’ is supposed to do, and while Crota’s End is highlighted in the first Weekly Featured Raids playlist, we suspect picking it up via the director will also fulfill the requirements for the Essence of the Oversoul.
Use Supreme Soul Essence
Once those steps are completed, you will receive the Supreme Soul Essence of Eris. Now upgrade the Eidolon Ally to the maximum, and the last node will require the Essence of the Oversoul. Spending it will transform the rifle into the Necrochasm. Good job!
It’s worth noting that this new Necrochasm has its own decoration that may appear in the new Treasure of Ages box as part of this new event, if you want to differentiate it from its original variant.
