Destiny Archon’s Forge: Loot, rewards, and how Rise of Iron’s battle arena works

Destiny introduces a new type of patrol battlefield in Rise of Iron called Archon’s Forge. Playing similarly to Prison of the Elders but closer to Court of Oryx in execution, players must work together to defeat a squad of enemies and a powerful boss within a five-minute time limit.

Learning how it works is not only important for completing the Rise of Iron Record Book, but some of the expansion’s most lucrative weekly rewards, Shiro-4, require you to win games in the Forge (which is particularly useful if you want to have the opportunity to start the Thorn Hunt).

Not only that, but it can drop class items up to light level 400, making it an additional source of equipment as you surpass the 365 mark.

How to Find and Start an Archon’s Forge Encounter in Destiny: Rise of Iron

Archon’s Forge is located within The Plaguelands Patrol, between The Archon’s Keep and The Warrens. To get there, go to the large building at the top end of Archon’s Keep, the end closest to the Forgotton Pass area, and head into the corridor behind it.

If you remember The Iron Tomb quest, you go through it on your way to the final area inside Site 6.

Place your SIVA offerings on this console to begin in Archon’s Forge.

To start an encounter, you need a SIVA Offering, which you insert into the console on the right if you enter from The Archon’s Keep. These come in one of three varieties that increase the difficulty of the event you are facing:

  • Merged SIVA offer: common (green), 320 lights recommended
  • Improved SIVA Offer – Rare (Blue), 340 Light Recommended
  • Perfected SIVA Offer – Rare (Purple), 360 Light Recommended

Fused, Enhanced, and Perfected will essentially increase the level of Light and the number of enemies you face in that encounter, but the higher the level, the more they count towards Shiro-4’s weekly reward, with Common as one, Rare as two and Rare with a value of four. deals (thanks to the Destiny sub-Reddit for this).

Meanwhile, the type of encounter depends on the color of the SIVA Offering vial you have:

  • Yellow is mango or slag.
  • Red is vandal or captain.
  • Blue is the server.

(Thanks also to the Destiny subreddit for these.)

Interestingly, you can only have one SIVA Offer in your inventory at a time, although you can trade it for different characters or store it in the Vault to collect more. Once you’ve used one, you can obtain another by killing enemies within the Plaguelands or as loot by completing Archon’s Forge events.

How to play and win at Archon’s Forge, rewards explained

Once you’ve inserted a key, the five-minute encounter will begin; you must jump to the area below in a few seconds; Otherwise you’ll be locked in the ‘prison’ starting area above, so act fast! This time limit is designed to allow nearby players to engage you, but it also means that you can block yourself as well.

Although there are three difficulty offerings and five different enemy types, each encounter will essentially boil down to the same format:

  1. Enemy Elimination Squads will increase the on-screen gauge
  2. Halfway through, you have the opportunity to earn a “blessing” by proving yourself; in other words, clear the map of the red SIVA nodes that appear both in the open air and those that emerge from the capsules. This will open a capsule at each end of the arena with Iron Lord Axes. Don’t worry if you fail, the encounter will just continue!
  3. Once the gauge reaches 100%, the central capsule will open, revealing more enemies and a high-powered ‘boss’ version of one of those enemies.
  4. Defeat the boss to win the encounter and earn rewards.

Archon Forge Rewards

Interestingly, the rewards do not appear to be tied to the strength of the Offer you offer, and you can receive rewards whether you have personally used the Offer or not. It can also mean that you can walk away from a challenging SIVA legendary offering you’ve provided without any rewards, but it’s also nice to jump into a random encounter and get some high-level loot too.

Rewards can include armor sets (helmets, gauntlets, chests, and boots) that can go up to light level 385, while class items, ghosts, and artifacts can go up to light level 400. You can also get the rifle pulse Saladin’s Vigil and But Not Forgotten is a sniper for up to 385 Light, as well as Glimmer and engrams (thanks to Eurogamer reader boot93 for giving more details on these). In fact, running Archon’s Forge is one of the best ways to get a lot of (mostly blue) engrams, making it useful if you can survive the sub-340 Light level.

How to Win Encounters in Archon’s Forge

No matter what, you’ll always want to be paired with other players, whether as a Fireteam or, ideally, other random players, so only spend your SIVA Offerings with other people around you. Not only does it help with the difficulty, but dying when you’re alone will end the encounter entirely.

The encounters are pretty simple, as it’s basically about taking down all the enemies you face as quickly as possible. It’s worth knowing where they come from (there are doors around the edges of the arena, including a ledge at the top) so you can eliminate them at the source as soon as they appear. The only difficulty is being overwhelmed, so learn the arena space, retreat, and take control when under attack. Achieving blessings is helpful, but ultimately not essential.

Perhaps the most important tip is to avoid reviving when you die. Doing so will place you in the ‘prison’ at the top of the arena, where you will enter the SIVA Offering to start, and you will have to use a Splicer Key to get out. To avoid this, simply wait for another player to revive you.

However, the only time you should revive is if you are short on time or if the enemy forces are too strong for another player to come to your aid. If you decide to revive, try to coordinate the revives so that multiple players can escape from the “prison” at the same time with the use of a single Splicer key.

What else do you need to know about the Archon Forge in Destiny: Rise of Iron?

  • Even at the lowest levels, make sure you have a decent Light level (ideally 340 or higher) and are on a team before taking on an encounter. The high-level legendary deals in particular will be difficult no matter your level, so make sure you have a full team to back you up.
  • A post-launch hotfix improved SIVA’s drop rate when you finished Archon’s Forge, but other players have reported a higher loot drop rate overall, so if you were discouraged when you started Rise of Iron, it’s worth it come back now. to see how you’re doing.
  • A good tip for trying to match up with random characters in the environment is to slowly approach the Archon’s Forge arena; This increases the chance that the game servers will match you with other players. If you’re approaching from The Archon’s Keep, walk slowly as you enter the corridor and climb the stairs, and cross your fingers that you’ll see others in the arena. Some have reported that approaching from The Warrens also improves the matchmaking success rate.
  • You can take a patrol mission from other parts of the Plaguelands (such as killing a certain number of enemies) and complete them within a Forge activity.
  • Encounters in Archon’s Forge are classified as a public event, which is useful for certain weekly or daily rewards.
