To begin using Wayfinder’s Compass, you must progress through Mission Cocoon, which is the seasonal introductory mission, Wayfarer’s Voyage.
This starts as soon as you log into Destiny 2’s Season of the Lost for the first time. You’ll have to search for Mara Sov in the Dreaming City, encountering a number of iconic characters along the way as the story sets up the conflict to come.

How the Wayfinder Compass Artifact Works in Destiny 2 Explained
There is another use for the Wayfinder compass in the inventory screen.
This may seem overly complex at first, but it’s pretty simple. The main element used here is XP, so you don’t need to do anything specific. Of course, purchasing rewards with Glimmer before participating in weekly and daily activities will be a big help.
After reaching certain milestones (always shown when you hover over the compass), you’ll unlock both power bonuses and artifact mods.
Basically, artifact unlocks serve as a kind of currency to purchase artifact mods. These can then be placed on your team as normal mods. Please note that you can only have a total of 12 artifacts unlocked, so only 12 artifact mods will be purchasable.
That said, you can reset your unlocked artifact mods by spending a couple thousand Glimmer each. That said, the price will increase with each subsequent reset, so plan accordingly.
