Mindbender’s Ambition is a Legendary Shotgun in Destiny 2. Originally part of the Forsaken expansion, it was updated and returns as part of Season of Defiance.

This solar shotgun focuses on slow, powerful shots, dealing damage in chunks. Excels as part of a solar build, frequently activating Scorch abilities.

This page will detail how to get Mindbender’s Ambition in Destiny 2 and what to look for on a Mindbender’s Ambition god roll.

How to get the Mindbender ambition in Destiny 2

Mindbender’s Ambition is a weapon exclusive to Nightfall. This means it will only appear at the end of Nightfall Strike and only in a week where it is the featured weapon in the rotation.

When Mindbender’s Ambition is high in the rotation, it can drop from the chest after successfully completing it. There is a chance it will drop, but there are no guarantees it will be there on any individual attempt. All you can do is face Nightfall repeatedly.

Whether the weapon falls is a matter of luck, but you have the ability to tip the balance in your favor. Increasing the difficulty also increases the chance of the Nightfall weapon dropping, from Rare on the lowest difficulty to Common on the highest.

You can also equip the Ghost Prosperity (Vanguard) mod. This gives playlist attacks and Nightfalls a chance to drop an additional piece of legendary gear upon completion. This has never been confirmed to include Nightfall weapons, but anecdotally it seems to have an effect.

The Season of the Depths is here along with the Into the Depths quest. You can also know how to go fishing! Don’t forget to keep an eye on the Lost Sector and King’s Fall challenge rotation schedule!

Mindbender’s Ambition God Roll Recommendation in Destiny 2

Mindbender’s Ambition is best used in PVE, where its sun damage and perk selection works well against tough enemies, and it excels as part of a Scorch build.

Here’s our recommended Mindbender’s Ambition god roll in Destiny 2:

  • smoothbore
  • assault mag
  • Threat detector
  • Incandescent
  • Impressive recovery

Smoothbore addresses the main drawback of shotguns: range. You still won’t be able to shoot with it, but extending Mindbender’s Ambition’s lethal damage is a good thing.

Assault Mag is two benefits in one. First, it increases stability. Given how hard a shotgun kicks, anything that helps keep subsequent shots aligned is great. Second, increase your rate of fire. This weapon is a slow and heavy hitter. Less slow means stronger hits.

Threat Detector is an ideal perk for shotguns. Increases reload, stability, and handling when enemies are close, which is the only time you will use this weapon.

Incandescent is a big plus, especially for the solar subclasses. Defeating a target spreads burns, dealing damage over time, to nearby enemies. Combine that with Solar 3.0 abilities that feed on fire and trigger explosive ignitions on enemies and you’ve got a recipe for quickly burning through large groups in no time.

Impressive Recovery is one of two selectable origin traits. Neither option is exceptional, but Stunning Recovery is excellent in certain situations. With it, stunning a champion will partially refill your magazine, increase recovery, and trigger health regeneration. It’s a very situational situation, but fighting Champions is exactly the type of situation where it’s good to have an advantage.

As usual, once you have your preferred roll, be sure to upgrade it to Masterwork to give it a stat boost, the ability to spawn orbs on multiple kills, and add the option for a kill tracker.
