Destiny 2 Gjallarhorn quest: How to start And Out Fly the Wolves and unlock the Gjallarhorn

Gjallarhorn, the iconic exotic rocket launcher from Destiny 1, makes a triumphant return to Destiny 2 after all these years.

If you participated in any raids during the first era of Destiny, chances are you’ve encountered a Guardian wielding this weapon.

This rocket launcher stood out quite a bit, not only for its Nordic design but mainly for the use of tracking rockets. With the right buffs, this weapon was unstoppable and everyone was always looking for a possible takedown.

Whether or not the weapon will have the same firepower in Destiny 2 remains to be seen, but for now, this page details how to unlock Gjallarhorn, which requires you to know how to start And Out Fly the Wolves and the steps to complete the quest.

How to get Gjallarhorn in Destiny 2 soon

Here’s a quick summary of the steps needed to obtain Gjallarhorn:

  1. Complete the Dares of Eternity event (starts automatically after downloading Bungie’s 30th Anniversary Update)
  2. Talk to Xur in Treasure Hoard and continue the quest And Out Fly the Wolves.
  3. Talk to Shaw Han at the cosmodrome
  4. Complete the Grip of Greed dungeon.
  5. Talk to Shaw Han at the cosmodrome
  6. Collect Wolfpack rounds by defeating the powerful Fallen in the Cosmodrome (7 total)
  7. Talk to Shaw Han at the Cosmodrome and recover the Rocket Housing component.
  8. Talk to Banshee-44 and recover the firing mechanism.
  9. Complete the Lost Sector 2A Exodus Garden in the Cosmodrome.
  10. Meet Gjallarhorn at Shaw Han’s camp in the Cosmodrome.
  11. Talk to Shaw Han at the Cosmodrome to complete Gjallarhorn.

Please note that you will need to purchase Bungie’s 30th Anniversary DLC to access the quest.

It’s a pretty long quest, so be prepared for at least a few hours of gameplay to get the weapon.

How to Start and Fly Wolves in Destiny 2

First, you must complete a round of Dares of Eternity, the new six-player activity that will begin after Bungie’s 30th anniversary update. This shouldn’t take long, so enjoy the activity. Once you’re done, you’ll end up in Treasure Hoard, Xur’s special area.

Once there, exhaust the dialogue with Xur until you’re looking at the regular vendor screen. In the bottom grid of items, switch to the second tab to find the And Out Fly the Wolves quest.

While it’s ‘hidden’ you don’t need any big prior steps, which is a relief. The quest will begin by taking you to talk to Shaw Han.

Once you’ve picked up And Out Fly the Wolves from Xur in Treasure Hoard, you’ll need to head to the Cosmodrome and talk to Shawn Han.

From here, the task will take you to completing Grasp of Avarice, which is the DLC’s only dungeon (it has a recommended power level of 1310, by the way). This can be started from the Cosmodrome map or from its directory.

Our Grasp of Avarice guide will explain how to complete the dungeon. Once this is done, you will have more quest steps ahead of you to unlock Gjallarhorn.

How to collect Wolfpack rounds in Destiny 2

Once this is done, you must collect the Wolfpack bullets from the fallen mighty in the cosmodrome.

You can do this anywhere in the Cosmodrome, but we recommend visiting the Lost Sector in The Divide called Exodus Garden 2A.

Powerful Fallen abound here; It’ll probably take you a few visits rather than doing it all at once, but it’s a pretty short Lost Sector to juggle.

Once you’ve collected all seven Wolfpack rounds, return to Shaw Han for the final steps.

The Season of the Depths is here along with the Into the Depths quest. You can also know how to go fishing! Don’t forget to keep an eye on the rotation schedule for the Lost Sector and King’s Fall challenges!

How to Reassemble Gjallarhorn in Destiny 2

Before getting to the practical version of the weapon, you will have to collect its parts. This is pretty easy, since the busiest part of the mission is over.

First, after you have given Shaw Han the seven Wolfpack rounds by returning to the Cosmodrome and talking to him again, he will give you the quest item Rocket Housing.

You’ll need a weapons expert for the task, and who else but Banshee-44 will help you with this? Go ahead and pay him a visit in the Tower. It is located in the usual place near the Courtyard.

Banshee-44 will tell you that the last component is located in Exodus Garden 2A, which means you will run the Lost Sector once again. Yes, it’s a bit boring, but you just need to do it quickly without worrying about dropping items.

We almost arrive!

There are only a few steps left. Return to the Cosmodrome once again and instead of talking to Shaw Han directly, head to his hideout (located on the right side of his location) and use the toolbox to assemble the Gjallarhorn components you have.

All that’s left for you is to talk to Shaw Han one last time to get Gjallarhorn.

Congratulations on completing the mission!
