Zelda Tears of the Kingdom release time in BST, CEST, EDT and PDT explained

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is almost finally here with its release on Friday, May 12 on Nintendo Switch worldwide.

While the physical editions of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are playable from the moment you hold them in your hands, there is a restriction on when the digital version, purchased through the Nintendo Switch eShop, is unlocked. The good news, however, is that most players can start exploring Hyrule as soon as the clock hits midnight on Friday in their region.

If you’ve pre-ordered the game digitally through the eShop and are wondering when you’ll be able to start playing, check out the release time for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom below.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom release time explained in BST, CEST, EDT and PDT

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s release time is pretty straightforward for most players, as it should adhere to the Nintendo Switch eShop’s general rule of being available starting at midnight (local time) on Friday, May 12. .

The main expectation is within the United States due to its multiple time zones. The good news is that since the release time is nationwide, players living on the West Coast can start adventuring around Hyrule at the same time as those on the East Coast.

In summary, these are the release times for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in your region:

  • UK: Friday 12 May at 12am (BST)
  • Europe: Friday, May 12 at 00:00 (CEST)
  • US East Coast: Friday, May 12, 12am (EDT)
  • US West Coast: Thursday, May 11 at 9:00 pm (PDT)

It’s worth noting that the above only applies to digital pre-orders of the game through the Nintendo Switch eShop. If you’ve ordered a physical copy, you’ll have to wait for it to arrive the old fashioned way. (Unless it arrived a day early, and if that’s the case, I’m pretty jealous.)

Nintendo does this for every game it releases, which is something to keep in mind if you plan to pre-order another game, like Pikmin 4, through the eShop.

How big is the Zelda Tears of the Kingdom download?

It doesn’t matter if you’re pre-loading Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in preparation for its release on Friday, May 12, or if you plan to start downloading it when it launches, the file size is 16.2 GB.

As of this writing, we don’t know if there will be a day one patch.
