World Television Day was established by the UN General Assembly on December 17, 1996, by resolution 51/205, to honor the day on which the World Television Forum was held. It provides the media with a platform and allows them to talk about how important television is for disseminating information and how it fits into a changing world. In recognition of the growing influence that television has on decision-making by drawing attention to conflicts and threats to peace and security, as well as its potential role in focusing attention on other crucial issues, including economic problems and social, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed November 21 as World Television Day (by resolution 51/205 of December 17, 1996)
